U-571
U-571 is truly an "on the edge of your seat" film about a US Navy crew trying to sail a Nazi U-Boat to England in 1942 (won't explain how that happens, see the movie). In one scene, the boat is attacked by depth charges from a German destroyer. The crew turns to the young skipper for guidance and asks what they should do to save the boat and their lives. He says he doesn't know. Somehow they survive this attack. The wise, crusty Chief then has a fatherly chat with the skipper in a quiet moment over coffee. He explains that he let the crew down because they need to believe he knows everything, even when he doesn't. Why? Because their lives are in his hands, and they have to have absolute confidence in the ability, knowledge, and judgment of their skipper. A submarine crew needs to have confidence in their skipper. We need to have confidence in ourselves. So often, the difference between success and failure is not intelligence or innate ability, but attitude! Many people condition themselves into believing they aren't as smart or capable as other people. They suffer from low self esteem. Even though they are every bit as intelligent as the next person, because they constantly down-rate themselves, they think they can never be successful. Eventually, their belief that they are doomed to fail becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. We must live with a strong confidence (not to say, arrogance) in our abilities and potential. This confidence will fuel our will to succeed, and once again, the belief we can do the job and succeed becomes self-fulfilling prophesy. We are all Winners! Chaplain Mitch Schranz

March 8Pure Worship
My house will be called a house of prayer.
Mark 11:17Jose pastored a church known for its programs and theatrical productions. They were well done, yet he worried the churchs busyness had slipped into a business. Was the church growing for the right reasons or because of its activities? Jose wanted to find out, so he canceled all extra church events for one year. His congregation would focus on being a living temple where people worshiped God.
Joses decision seems extreme, until you notice what Jesus did when He entered the temples outer courts. The holy space that should have been full of simple prayers had become a flurry of worship business. Get your doves here! Lily white, as God requires! Jesus overturned the merchants tables and stopped those who bought their merchandise. Furious at what they were doing, He quoted Isaiah 56 and Jeremiah 7: My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. But you have made it a den of robbers (Mark 11:17). The court of the gentiles, the place for outsiders to worship God, had been turned into a mundane marketplace for making money.
Theres nothing wrong with business or staying busy. But thats not the point of church. Were the living temple of God, and our main task is to worship Jesus. We likely wont need to flip over any tables as Jesus did, but He may be calling us to do something equally drastic.

Reflect & Pray
Why do you attend church and meet with believers? What expectations of yours might you need to let the Spirit change?
Father, show us where our expectations of worship fail to please You. Help us see that its all about You.

Tonight is the night the clocks go crazy. To make sure I get it right I plan on going to bed early and sleeping in late. I only have one clock to set as the others will change themselves and so will the puter.
60 degrees today melted some of the remaining Thanksgiving snow.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Remaining Thanksgiving snow?
What is snow?
February was snowless in southcentral PA and the seasonal total of barely 8 inches is one of the lowest on record.

What is snow? ...
They said 3 inches of snow and we got 3 feet. Then there was one with about 2 feet. It was -44 degrees down south earlier . Colorado has warmed up quite bit since they closed the weather station at Fraizer Colorado.

We had back-to-back 24” snowfalls in February of 2010 separated by only three days. (5-6 & 9-10)
That was bad enough...can’t imagine what you’ve been dealing with.
