The first US case here in Washington was only 33 years old, and was on a ventilator after only a few days. He was cured by the Ebola drug, but no one ever hears about him now that he left the hospital.
Thank you for finding and posting this!

Ping to study done in Wuhan on the virus.
“The living will envy the dead...”
Well I think I look great in my Uniform :)
Nah, I just don’t worry like a little girl. Or an average FReeper lately :)
I have to ask. Do some of you WANT this thing to explode?
It’s like a number of you are virus concern trolls.
It’s an odd phenomenon.
Good grief so go cry like a little girl with the rest of the fruits on here crying.
I’ll send you tissues if you give me an address :)
Flu mortality rate is .07% Corona is between 20x and 40x that. Italy is at 3% so far. Korea is at 1%, which is still 14x deadlier than the flu. It will be low in the US until the hospitals are full, which won't take much of an outbreak if it gets onshore. No matter how you parse, much much worse than the flu.
The common cold? No, it's not.
The Hollywood zombie apocalypse that some in the media/interwebs seems to think it is? No, it's not.
Else, after 3-4+ months "on the loose", this (perhaps) lab created, (perhaps) natural mutation would have killed 10's of thousands in this country alone.
There have been 18 death's of people in 1st world healthcare countries. How many of those 18 were from the 3rd world to begin with? Tomorrow, there will be more. The next week, more still. The month after, yet more.
18. As of now. 1st world. Vast majority, not young/healthy.
18.
Not even remotely infinitesimally close to to the 10's of thousands that die in 1st world health care countries from influenza every year. Not even in the same universe.
Perspective.
If even, within the next 6 months time, a "mere" 1,000 die in this country, the USA, from Covid 19 (vs ten times more from influenza), the media/academia/Hollywood/etc will blame Trump 24x7 and he looses a critical portion of the more "reasonable" (D)'s and independents support.
I'm hopeful that calming minds and voices, like our President's, help to steer our country clear of an economic meltdown inspired by ignorance and fear that will cause the 50%+ less intelligent/less informed among us to feel they need to vote for the socialist that is talking about "free" healthcare.
Remain vigilant, as always, regardless...but for our country's sake, don't panic.
18.
The above study suggests only about 7% end up in ICU.
In a city of 1 million, that would be 70,000.
I wonder if there are even 70,000 ICU beds in the whole country?
Tent hospitals on military installations and strident quarantine are likely on tomorrow’s agenda in front of the Senate. Either real planning, or as a contingency.
My guess is it is real planning and team formation and purchasing will start immediately. Hierarchy and authorities assigned. Goals established.
Anything else would be derelict.
This virus is apparently very dangerous with an R naught of around 2.5. And it kills something above 1% of those who get it.
It’s a threat at least as dire as the Spanish Flu of 1918. But in a world of instantaneous worldwide communication, video and general reliance on government for everything.
Expectations of Uncle Sam will be extraordinarily high.
Health systems will fail. Some governments will fall. The world economy will go to sh!t.
All hat and no cattle, and even less reading comprehension.
Better to keep your alligator mouth shut instead of letting it overrun your hummingbird ass.
You dont intimidate me one damn bit.
200,000 - 400,000 deaths are what people are telling us to fear. In our country alone.
If there are 200,000 - 400,000 deaths in the U.S. this year alone, every city in our country would be quarantined, Trump is not our president in 2021, our economy crashes worse than the great depression and we are truly screwed. Big time. Majorly.
“...28 day mortality for ICU patients.”
Years ago I was out working long days in the field, was on the third straight week of 14 hour days. I ended up getting a staph infection in my hand that laid me up in the little small-town hospital for three days.
That was almost a mini-vacation other than the I.V. drip antibiotics. 28 days of labored breathing, fever, having a reasonable fear that you will die, and if not, probably be damaged for life? No thanks!
There is no such thing as rest in a hospital..... Glad you recovered!
It’s already exploded in China; and right on the edge in Iran and Italy.
If you bother to read the scientific papers on it...it’s f***ing scary.
I truly hope you are right - we have the advantages of better hygiene, distance between people, clean air, and clean water. Our rate of heavy smoking is very small. We wash our hands.
We generally do not live in giant apartment towers where we share air handling and drain vents with lots of other people.
Our only disadvantage is that we get our medicines from China...
In the 1918 flu about 680,000 people in the USA died (18 months duration). Of course, we had the “Roaring 20’s” shortly afterwards. That seems surprising - although prosperity in the 20’s may have been overridden by the end of the war.
I am of the opinion that the war was “called” on account of the flu. Both sides had lost so many young fighting men to the flu.
BTW - the Hong Kong models and the Los Alamos Labs models predicted MUCH higher numbers than what China is reporting. For once in my life I’m putting more trust in the models than the “data” that China is providing.
The CDC estimates between 16,000 and 41,000 deaths in the United States due to influenza.
That means we should "expect" between 320,000 to 820,000 (20x) to 640,000 to 1,640,000 (40x) deaths in the United States from Corvid 19.
A million deaths in the U.S. this year alone? And there hasn't been a single death yet in the U.S. after months of intercontinental travel?
The hysteria would be more then even Hollywood could imagine. Our country would be in a world class cluster F (to say nothing of the rest of the world).
