As much as I want to agree with you, I’m afraid there is more to it.
The principal cause was our wanton destruction of marriage. More than 50% of the kids are growing up without a Dad. One of the rules (when scouting was good) was that no kids could go camping without a certain number of Dads in the group.
A guy that used to work for me in the 80’s would go camping with kids almost every weekend. He finally came in one day looking very depressed and said he had just told the Scouts that he couldn’t do it anymore. He said, “I’ve go to have my life back, I just can’t go every weekend.
I asked why he was doing it and his answer almost brought me to tears. His sons had many friends that wanted to go as well but they were all being raised by single moms. He would go along as a stand in Dad so they could go camping. He said, “man I just can’t stand to have them look at me with those sad eyes, but I’ve got things I just have to do on some weekends.”
Shortly thereafter the Scouts announced that adult males could join without being Dads. And the gates were unlocked.
My son is an Eagle Scout. It taught him to think for himself, trained him in leadership, gave him a healthy respect for guns, and taught him about citizenship. He’s hard-working and is able to manage his time and set goals which he then unfailingly achieves. I despise what they’ve done to the Scouts. Leftists are evil and destroy everything they touch.

Phillips was a successful oilman who used some of his fortune to develop a huge ranch in northeastern New Mexico. In 1938, and again in 1941, he donated two large tracts of the ranch to the Boy Scouts.
Since the first Boy Scout camp opened there in 1939, more than 1 million Scouts and other adventurers have camped and hiked on the property, which now covers more than 140,000 acres (56,650 hectares). One of its many trails leads to the 12,441-foot (3,793-meter) summit of Baldy Mountain.
In a statement provided to The Associated Press, the Boy Scouts said programming and operations at Philmont “continue uninterrupted, and we are committed to ensuring that the property will continue to serve and benefit the Scouting community for years to come. “
“In the face of rising insurance costs, it was necessary for the BSA to take some actions earlier this year to address our current financial situation,” the BSA said. “This included identifying certain properties, including Philmont Scout Ranch, that could be used as collateral …. in order to keep in place an existing line of credit for insurance.”
Disclosure of the mortgage comes at a challenging time for the BSA, which for years has been entangled in costly litigation with plaintiffs who said they were abused by scout leaders in their youth. Hundreds of new lawsuits loom after New York, New Jersey, Arizona and California enacted laws making it easier for victims of long-ago abuse to seek damages.
The BSA, headquartered in Irving, Texas, says it’s exploring “all available options” to maintain its programs and has not ruled out the possibility of filing for bankruptcy.
Seeking to ease some of the financial pressure, the BSA announced in October that the annual membership fee for its 2.2. million youth members will rise from $33 to $60, while the fee for adult volunteers will rise from $33 to $36. The news dismayed numerous local scout leaders, who had already started registering youths for the coming year.
According to Stinnett, the BSA used the ranch as collateral to secure $446 million of debt with J.P. Morgan Chase.
Stinnett wrote that ranch committee member Julie Puckett — a granddaughter of Waite Phillips — had urged BSA officials in recent weeks to recognize Philmont as a restricted asset based on the understandings of all parties when Phillips donated the land.. . “. . .

For the record....... last month, our troop grew by 23 scouts who were all graduating Weblos.
The pack is also growing as parents know that BSA is a terrific program for their sons and daughters.

So I guess prohibiting homosexuals didn’t really help the problem. Back then they were in the closet, often married with kids , so it was not apparent. With them out of the closet they could be better monitored and less likely to strike

Gee....it’s almost like the homosexuals WANTED to ruin institutions like the Boy Scouts and the Catholic Church.
There were plenty of people inside of both organizations only too happy to let it happen.
When I became an adult leader of the local troop, the mandatory training was administered at the catholic church that sponsored the troop.
They went out of their way to explain that pedophilia and homosexuality were 100% unrelated.
I’m an eagle scout, as are both my brothers. I pulled both my sons out of scouts after 1 year, back in 2009. It was already over.

To be fair, the problem they are dealing with is that they had homosexuals in the system for generations, the abuse goes back decades, they have records showing they new about it, but they didn’t report to police, and they didn’t remove all of the predators.
They had the rules that disallowed homosexuals from leadership, but apparently had places where that wasn’t enforced.
In my district, we had a guy run for office in the early 2000’s, and he was openly gay, and one of his bio points was that he was a scoutmaster of a local troop. Nobody asked how an openly gay person could be a scoutmaster, it was just accepted that if nobody complained, the BSA did nothing about it.
The recent moves were just confirming what was already the case in some instances, and forcing that on everybody else.

Both of those organizations were targeted by sodomites because they provided relatively easy access to boys. It is the same exact problem. weak leadership sacrificed our sons on the altar of political correctness. Both organizations betrayed their oaths.
The only way to solve the situation is to get the sodomites out of those organizations.
Since they don't reproduce, they have to recruit.
