Attorney General William Barr told ABC News in an interview aired Thursday that President Trump had never asked him to do anything in a criminal case but advised the president to stop tweeting about the Justice Department, saying it makes it impossible for me to do my job.
The remarks are a significant and rare public break by the attorney general from the president, following days of controversy surrounding the Justice Departments decision to lessen a sentence for Trump ally Roger Stone after the president tweeted about his displeasure with the gravity of the original sentence recommendation.
I think its time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases, Barr told ABC in the interview.

Thanks for illustrating my point.
It's good. The system has lost the respect of a substantial fraction of reasonable and intelligent people. Maybe Barr has an impossible job. Maybe the DOJ can't be salvaged.
Time to re-read the Declaration of Independence.
That's very much TBD right now.
Of course you're correct. I'm surprised so many here are out of their minds.
Agreed. Its been common practice in past admins for the AG and POTUS to communicate via the press. This is so they can claim to have never spoken about such and such. Holder once admitted thats how he and Obama did it. Its the smart thin* to do,
You are watching a master of it. The guy who rode down an elevator and everyone thought it was a joke. They still do, apparently. Well, how did this gibbering fool get this far.
Some people are cool with tweeting, some are not..seems that Barr is not a fan and that is OK..that’s his opinion..what he is saying is that NO ONE bullies him into doing anything, he does what HE thinks is right..so he is saying that no one forces him to do anything..not the President or anyone and that is a good thing..he’s doing Trump a big favor with this interview, he’s confirming Trump did NOT tell him to do anything, but on the other hand, yeah he’s not a big fan of tweets..but that is what Trump does, he gets pissed, he tweets, its what he does..if Trump had NEVER tweeted about this we would never have known about the outright bias the Jury foreperson had
Maybe Barr has an impossible job.
That’s my guess. Must be total gridlock at Main DOJ. Little work getting done. They are waiting out the election before making their next moves.
Barr is right.
He wants to do things Trump also wants him to do. But he is not aided in obtaining public confidence in what he does if it appears his decisions are all politically determined by Trump for political reasons, and not because they are just what Barr should do (and likely would do) without any seeming pressure from Trump.
Trump is making it look too often like Barr is ONLY doing what seems POLITICALLY GOOD for Trump. That appearance is obscuring that it is often just the right thing to do.
Barr is right.
He wants to do things Trump also wants him to do.
Like send Stone to prison for 3-4 years? I doubt Trump wants that. “Barr” DOJ just recommended just that.
I disagree. Any authority Barr has is delegated to him by POTUS. The AG is not the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the Republic. He is a hired hand and although not Trump’s personal lawyer, he is obligated to execute Trump’s policy not his own. Given the level of visible corruption in DOJ and Barr’s seeming tolerance of it, why should Trump not be entitled to a public opinion about the DOJ’s actions?
If Barr wants to head off public criticism, I offer two strategies: 1) Do your f’n job and restore rule of law in the DOJ in a visible enough way to be seen by the public. 2) Keep Trump in the loop and explain why his actions are consistent with rule of law and Trump’s promises to the American people.
If Barr has such thin skin, then he is as arrogant as hundreds of lawyers I have worked with in the last four decades who seem to think that non-lawyers are not entitled to an opinion about the quality of their work. Barr is Trump’s employee and as such is not entitled to pursue policies contrary to legitimate policies pursued by Trump. Manafort, Stone and Flynn are not important case because they are friends of Trump, but because the abuse heaped on them is a giant F you from the permanent government to ordinary citizens.
I would think that Trump, getting the truth out about the Stone case, would make Barr's job easier, not harder.
Perhaps Barr did advise the WH he would be more comfortable-effective if there appeared to be a bit more room between them. I.e., that there was communication with the WH on the point and it was agreed Barr's statement would better shape the public image.
Well Barr, do your damn job.
The DOJ and AG are not in the Constitution. You answer to the President as part of the Executive Branch.

OK, now we're even. ;^D

It’s really shocking how things work in DC.
Yup.
You dont think he spoke to trump first. That is crazy thinking. He got trumps blessing 100 percent. Politics is ugly.
