The Naval Station Great Lakes has gone on lock down on Friday morning as authorities warn of a 'gate runner.'
The station, located in a North Chicago suburb, shared a short message on their Facebook telling people to 'hide' or 'fight.'

Pretty harsh. The US Navy doesn't run and hide. We've been patrolling the seas since there was a US and have lost many Sailors in defense of liberty.
That said, I have always stated that my first respect goes to the in-country grunts who are the most likely to die and be maimed. BTW, you do know that we have Navy SEAL units along side the Army/Marine grunts in the ME shithole? They were sailors first before they became SEAL's.
Also, just being an Aviation Swabbie during the cold war, we went to general quarters many times when a Soviet sub or surface warship pressed our resolve. Even without today's advance tech weapons, one torpedo could have sent every sailor on my ships to the bottom. I'm talking hundreds of sailors all at once. On my amphibious carrier, that would include 2000 marines.
With the missile tech of today and China's imperialism and growing navy, it's even more likely today. So, give our sailors a break. They work their asses off to keep the seas free.
Eleven years here, also. Wish I had stayed just one more year to change my Crow and hash marks to gold. Actually was planning on at least 20 years, but my rating was closing up so Chief was to far out and took a great civilian opportunity. See my post above about the poster’s disparaging remark.
I don’t think calling out another’s stupidity is being sensitive. Navy Vet is just stating facts.
I think I need my blanky or maybe a hug?
I think you meant that for post #122 - Key Largo. Or am I mistaken?
Right. I am such a civilian contractor working on an Army base. Roughly 40,000 of us are on site each weekday.
“Someone please explain why commissioned officers in the United States Armed Forces are not required to wear their sidearms while in uniform on duty”.
The display of firearms by U.S. military would anger enemy combatants.
Most of the recruits from the big cities have never been exposed to firearms and are uncomfortable with them.
Then what in hell are they even doing in the military we don’t need or want snowflakes
Drive by it all the time its got those n word things too
Huh?
they want disabled ad blockers****
Same with Gateway Pundit
They put a giant “ad” up saying click here to see ads and read article
So I search for the story and read it at another site.
Major Hassan perhaps?
Yiyiyi
So very much agree !
I have a friend on base who was ex Navy.
Now hes civilian and works on helicopters. That is an example of who is not armed on base.
The Navy has its faults, no doubt, especially in today’s Navy.
But is is good to keep in mind that they have taken their licks over the years too.
In the time frame of the direct fight for Guadalcanal, three out of every four combat fatalities in the theater for the main island where 4000 Americans died (3000 to about a 1000 for Marines and Army) were sailors.
It was savage, and the butchery didn’t go on slowly for days, the carnage happened in frames of minutes and hours. And when death wasn’t sudden, there was exposure and sharks, lots of sharks.
Our current military does have its issues, no doubt, but those issues aren’t limited to the Navy.
We’d have to call it Area 53.
They turned Area 51 into a Detail Shop for AF 28000 & 29000. (I’D as Air Force 1 only when the President is aboard one of them.)
Area 52 is now the Reverse Engineering Shops for the downed or captured UFO’s.
So what happened?
LOL.
Thank for taking the ribbing.
GO ARMY!
Thank you for your service.
We at our VFW host 40 recruits from Great Lakes every Christmas at our Post. We bring them to and from the base.
They always hav great meals , tons of food free use of laptops, phones and have big screen TVs to watch.
We get letters and calls from parents that say they cant thank us veterans enough for doing that for their sons or daughters.
