The Naval Station Great Lakes has gone on lock down on Friday morning as authorities warn of a 'gate runner.'
The station, located in a North Chicago suburb, shared a short message on their Facebook telling people to 'hide' or 'fight.'

One reason is that the guys who test security by sneaking onto base and into ‘secure’ areas would end up dead if caught. I had an uncle whose job in the Air Force was to test security back in the 50s and 60s. He did get to look down some gun barrels on hairy occasions but he also managed to get into places he should not have.
There are a lot of idiot power enlisted to be sure.
Ug! Lower enlisted.
Hate the break the news, but our military in general has not ever had arms unsecured and in the possession of the troops with field and combat exceptions. Arms and live ammo? Only on a range or on patrol, with exceptions.
Army ‘83-’07
Agent Brian Terry had his side arm...it was (I am told) loaded with dum-dums....bean bags. The enemy are the drug cartel mules...they are armed with (these) ... President Trump, please have someone look into the "live fire" rule today.
In my state, Alabama, the National Guard has armed people in each area. The governor authorized it after one of the assaults on a military target in the States.
I started my Navy recruit training cycle (boot camp, for those of you in Rio Linda) there in August of 1961. I recall that the gate guards were recruits from late in their cycle, and that their weapons were strictly for show.
I assume things are a little different now...
They should have at least one bullet like Deputy Barney Fife. Unless Big Maude wrestles his gun away.
Yes, and a vessel is like an installation. They were under arms under the direction of the MA, and not joes’ wandering around with a firearm. They were LEOs in any sense of the term.
sounds like many bases are using the old model, time to beef up, retractable stop poles, machine guns, explosion proof inspection stations
“No, those at Great Lakes are sailors! They are also in the military, and should be capable of fighting.”
You would be surprised at how many people there are civilian contractors.
Used to happen on shows like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. (1966). Shocking they haven’t caught on in 2020.
What if criminals or terrorists dressed up like laundry drivers or garbage truck drivers? Despite being old by the time the Untouchables was filmed, that ruse was used successfully two years ago in a prisoner escape.
“Hi fellas. Come on through.”
yea, add Langley, Norfolk and Yorktown naval weapons stations..How about Aberdeen testing grounds..nice defined kill zone
Okay. I'll give you the contract (as a taxpayer).
Just let it withstand the Eliot Ness truck with the plow on front welded on by the Keenan Wynn character. Got into most bootleggers' places.
>>How do we let unknown vehicles storm the gate and lose them instantly?<<
Right? My first thought was,”hide?”
Its a military installation for crying out loud! It should be...ALL HANDS ON DECK. Find these sum-b!7ches and stop them at all cost.
Whatever. Military personnel. There are civilians on base. Dont get caught up in schematics to be difficult.
1903 Springfields with firing pins removed; thats what we drilled with in the Washington High School Cadets in the 1940s. The school did have a small-bore range and rifle team.
“You would be surprised at how many people there are civilian contractors.”
Fair point. I was there long ago, which is why I see it as a bunch of sailors.
