The Naval Station Great Lakes has gone on lock down on Friday morning as authorities warn of a 'gate runner.'
The station, located in a North Chicago suburb, shared a short message on their Facebook telling people to 'hide' or 'fight.'

My husband was in the Navy - he had weapons qualification training just like any other military branch.
(And is still the best shot when he goes to target practice.)
When I was Officer of the Day and had to go armed, I always felt more comfortable around the Air Police than I did around the other Officers of the Day. I felt the APs were competent with firearms. I wasn't sure about the other ODs.
With all of Clinton/Obama's Communists that they packed into the military? The Pentagon is nothing more than a social Petri dish for leftist dogma, used for tests on how to reprogram Deplorables, and it's a given that they can't be trusted in the US with live ammunition.
GHWBush took their arms away.
Right. So you hid (no real ability to run), and were prepared to fight. Since your armament was far below that of the perp, it made sense not to go running at the guy.
Same situation we find ourselves in on-base/post.

Interesting discussion, but in case people saw the thread and wondered “what happened next”:
The Naval Station Great Lakes has apprehended the vehicle and the driver who crashed through a gate on the base on Friday morning.
In a Friday update shared on Facebook, the station said that the driver was being questioned in custody as ‘military working dogs’ were sweeping the area.
‘Several buildings have been evacuated,’ the post stated.
A later update indicated that the driver was an employee on the base who had authorized access. The driver had not followed directions of the gate sentry before barging through Gate One.
Thank you.
“Dont get caught up in schematics to be difficult.”
Schematics tend to be difficult for most people.
OTOH, semantics are a different critter...
Any officer not competent handling a gun ought not be in the Armed Forces of the United States.
Thank you.
A great American indeed.
Excellent.
That's true. However to put this in perspective, the large bases have Marines, often a SEAL unit, Shore Patrol who are trained with their weapons and hand to hand. At least that how it was when I was Shore Patrol. I had side-arm. PR-24 (baton), and wrestling training to bring down drunk Marines and Sailors. This sounds like lack of training for the gate guards, as is often the case. Also, the perp could have shown a fraudulent I.D.
Well, it is a naval base.......
Odd coincidence, a former friend’s father was the civil air patrol pilot who located the Audi Murphy plane crashed into the side of a mountain west of Roanoke, Va.
When did we stop using heavy metal barrier poles at the entrance? Pretty difficult to drive through those without wrecking the vehicle.
You forgot Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach, CA. Been there many times in my old Navy days and still is the largest on the West Coast.
