Chief Justice Roberts admonishes both sides at Senate impeachment trial, after marathon session erupts into shouting match
Fox News ^ | January 21 2020 | Gregg Re

A marathon first day in the Senate impeachment trial against President Trump erupted into a shouting match well after midnight early Wednesday morning, as Trump's legal team unloaded on Democratic impeachment manager Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y. -- in an exchange that prompted a bleary-eyed Chief Justice John Roberts to sternly admonish both sides for misconduct in the chamber.

Nadler began the historic spat by speaking in support of the eighth amendment of the day proposed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, after each of Schumer's previous attempted alterations to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's rules were rejected by a united Republican contingent by a vote of 53-47. The eighth amendment, issued as the clock struck midnight, was to issue a subpoena for former National Security Advisor John Bolton, who has reportedly described Trump's conduct as akin to a "drug deal."

Nader, who was overheard apparently planning to impeach Trump back in 2018, said it would be a "treacherous vote" and a "cover-up" for Republicans to reject the Bolton subpoena, claiming that "only guilty people try to hide evidence."

You are absolutely correct...... while most people here whine and cry about it, they ignore the bars of gold that were buried in his written opinion. His written opinion kills off alot of the foundations that the libs spent decades establishing. All the proof I need of that was that old bag ginsbergs reaction. She was pissed!!!!

One of the bars of gold is the virtual elimination of unfunded mandates to the states from the feds.

But, alas, no republican will use the bars of gold from this ruling for fear of being called a traitor...

Roberts sat there mute all day while the Dems trashed POTUS out of order. Then Trump’s attorney finally defends Trump and the Seante and Roberts comes out with this “both sides” nonsense. If there was any question what team Roberts plays for that settled it.

He does do anything. It’s a ceremonial position only. The fact that he had to admonish anyone is very rare. He did what my parents used to do and I hate it. He should have stepped in when Nadler was speaking but he waited until Trumps lawyers defended the senate and then admonished BOTH side. That is the very essence of unfairness.

Thanks for that commentary re Roberts. Need to re election Trump if for no other reason than to put a more reliable vote on SC as I agree he’s a snake from the Dem side fronting in a nomination of GWB who it turns out was probably more cabal than fresh change from Clintons

Well, perhaps such Senator will be provided with a bed.

I seem to recall a movie about the Johnson impeachment where there was a scene with some senator being carried in to the Senate chamber on a bed

“Wouldn’t surprise me if you have at least one Senator with health conditions dragged out”

Do we get to choose which one?

Sen. Bob Packwood was carried into the Senate chamber feet first, just for a filibuster vote..

You don’t go in an insult the people you are asking to do something ... accusing them of being part of an (imaginary) cover up by a large number of US Senators.

It might seem like this is a strategy to shore up the Democrat base, but that's a move that has unintended consequences.

When Trump won, the GOP was not too pleased. They were unsure of what his victory meant, but they were cautious. Three years later, they see that Trump has the economy humming, there are new trade deals, he has some big foreign policy victories, and has not sent us to war. On that record alone, the GOP is obliged to line up behind him.

So, on top of that, a bunch of deranged, far left-wing Democrats have taken over the party and are trying to drive the country off a cliff. And it appears they are transferring their Trump derangement onto the Senate. Not only have they created stronger support for Trump in the Senate, they are now sharing their psychosis on a national stage. The Democrat Party is unraveling before our eyes.

Nadler: "only guilty people try to hide evidence."

So why does Nadler not want Hunter Biden to testify regarding their activity in Ukraine?

It is the essence of unfairness, but, to some people, it’s done in the spirit of “fairness,” so as not to single out any one offender.

“When tyranny arrives, it’ll come on the back of a horse called Fairness...”

""It is appropriate at this point for me to admonish both the House managers and the president's counsel in equal terms to remember that they are addressing the world's greatest deliberative body," Roberts said. "One reason it has earned that title is because its members avoid speaking in a manner, and using language, that is not conducive to civil discourse."

Roberts sees equivalence between the two sides. Not surprised.

You mean Kerry’s son and his deals and

Pelosi son and his deal.

Hey! No equal opportunity for the Dems, apparently daughters are not cut in on the graft?
———————————————

This is so logical to understand. Hey! we are going to give the Ukrainian Government 1 billion plus dollars let’s get some of that US taxpayer money back. The best way to control that is for our family members to act on our behalf’s, and using our positions of influence. No one will ever notice that we are taking tax payer back into our pockets!

Not only have they created stronger support for Trump in the Senate

How so? The GOP Senate sat their mute yesterday while Schumer and the House Dems walked all over them. The GOP Senate caved on the Kavanaugh process and he had mainline GOP credentials. It should be expected they will do the same here to a POTUS they hate and did not vote for in some cases.

With luck it will cause heart attacks and I don’t care who it is.

This is stupid and a shame and disgrace.

Should have had a motion to dismiss immediately on receipt. Didn’t have the votes? Another disgrace. Not dismissing this mess immediately gives it credibility.

HRC is STILL running DOJ. In 1997 she swiped 900 FBI files on everybody in DC.She updated those from 2009-2013.

Correct, and according to former Speaker Newt Gingrich, 96% of the political donations of DOJ employees in 2016 went to Hillary. Almost all of those employees are still there under Barr. And we wonder why only Republicans are indicted and Democrats always skate.

Nadler has been lying. He was called on it by the president’s men. Roberts then chastised both groups equally. That’s just childish level stupidity.

Happens in divorce courts every day of the week.
