Saying it was against building policy, a Mercedes-Benz Superdome police officer was telling LSU football players to extinguish their victory cigars Monday night in the jubilant locker room minutes after winning the national championship when he felt LSU alum and NFL pro Odell Beckham Jr. slap him on the backside.
The 48-year-old lieutenant suppressed the urge to punch Beckham in retaliation, called the New Orleans Police Department a little more than a day later and told investigators he wanted to press charges, according to court records.
Police by Thursday morning had obtained a warrant to arrest Beckham, 27, on a count of simple battery, thrusting the mercurial wide receiver into another controversy stemming from his actions during Mondays title game.
A sworn New Orleans police statement filed in Criminal District Court recounts how the stadium security lieutenant had been ordered to enforce the Superdomes no-smoking policy when he confronted some LSU players in their locker room and asked them to put out their cigars.
The security officer told New Orleans police that one unspecified team member was argumentative at first but ultimately complied with the request. Right as that happened, the officer felt his buttocks get struck by the open hand of someone from behind.
According to police, the lieutenant momentarily wanted to retaliate by punching the offender later identified as Beckham but didnt. That description appears to have been included to illustrate that the contact on the officer was unwanted.
The officer also considered arresting Beckham but decided against it due to the jovial atmosphere of the locker room.

If a white football player smacked the backside of a black officer, the outcome would be very different.
Odell presumed he could get away with it, and have everybody just laugh it off. Nowadays, even Black Privilege has it’s limits.
This reminds me of the Urban Thugs who were throwing buckets of water or spraying Cops with garden hoses last summer. When they show disrespect, it’s supposed to be seen as a “joke”, not an actual offense.
Sorry, there are no excuses for making physical contact with an officer doing his duty.
He was doing what he was asked by the team’s agent. I’m sure it had to do with fire regulations.
When we do something we know is out of bounds and get called on it, it’s not time to belittle someone else who shouldn’t have had to remind us. If we didn’t know it up front, then we say, thank you officer. Sorry about that, and stop the behavior.
There are too many ways to celebrate that don’t break the rules to get upset when we get called on breaking them.
Take ownership, and do the adult thing.
America has become such an uptight, over-regulated, PC, legalistic place. Its really sad and pathetic.
Exactly. I’ve been a cop for a long time and I’ve learned the most important tool we have is discretion. If there was REALLY a problem with smoking in the locker room, go up to a coach and say “hey can you get the guys to put out the stogies?” This cop is a tool of the highest order and should be behind a desk, not out a high profile events.
"Mercurial"? Is that what it's called when 1 guy smacks another on the behind? I can think of another.
He was doing what he was asked by the teams agent.
???????????????
It’s college football team...They don’t have “agents”...
Sept. 3, 2016: Variety:
Lena Dunhan was highly insulted, because she says Odell ignored her at a sit down dinner for an awards ceremony.
“He couldn’t handle a woman wearing a Tux!” She later apologized.
Odell says he didn’t even know who she was.
And due to the beat-down he would have gotten. Another chicken-Schiff with a magic uniform.
I saw the video.
Guys like this shouldn't have badges. It turns them in to little Himmlers.

Well said..................
To actually believe a slap on your butt is a physical assault and makes the news, shows how the internet has brought out the extreme stupid in the American public.......
Here's a butt smack at you buddy: "Smack!"
If you want to call it the university administration or whatever, the person instructing the officer is still acting as an agent for the facility management.
I did not infer that the player’s agent had directed the officer to do anything. As you state, they don’t have one.

Did she wear her signature "pearl necklace" today?
“...He was doing what he was asked by the teams agent....”
Then you misspoke...The Super Dome isn’t controlled by the university administration either...
Dude is gay...
just locker room crap and he really is a small man...
He was asked by a person associated with the venue management, to do what he did.
No matter how you spin it, you lose.
Putting your hands on an officer is always wrong, unless the guy is threatening the life of someone undeservingly.

Josh Norman calling him a ballerina was hysterical. As a Giants fan I had high hopes for him. But he just turned into a total cancer on the team. He should have hit the cop in New York City where apparently it’s ok to sucker punch a cop knock him down and start pummeling him. In the new Fun City with no bail you’re back on the street in no time.
I didn’t “spin” anything...I gave my opinion on how this should’ve been handled...
Now whether you like my opinion or not means nothing to me...
