From 'blue' to 'red': Five leftist states with leftist policies are losing congressional seats. Red states are gaining them

They use it to call it "voting with their feet" or something like that.  Indeed, people are voting with their feet by trading in their old blue shoes for shining red shoes.

This is from Merrill Matthews, a resident scholar with the Institute for Policy Innovation in Dallas, Texas:

According to an Election Data Services analysis of the Census Bureau report, "The population projections point toward a ten [congressional] seat change over 17 states across the nation by year 2020."

Seven states are projected to gain one or more congressional seats after the 2020 election; 10 states are projected lose one seat.

The red-state leader is Texas, with a projected pickup of three congressional seats following the 2020 census — and that after gaining four congressional seats after the 2010 election. Florida will pick up two seats, and Arizona, Colorado, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon will each gain one, according to the analysis.

All 10 losing states — Alabama, California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia — lose only one seat.

Of the seven states gaining seats, five voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. Of the 10 states losing seats, five voted for Trump and five for Hillary Clinton.

It's not clear how all of this will play out after 2020.

My guess is that it will hurt blue districts more.  In other words, blue-state legislatures will have to eliminate a member of Congress or a Democrat.  On the other hand, red-state legislatures will have a chance of adding a new Republican.

Beyond politics, it makes it clear that real people would rather live in "a low-tax state."

So?!?

The moving populations are likely to vote as they have been voting.

So you don’t think the ones moving are more likely to be more conservative voters, moving out of blue states to a place where they’ll feel more comfortable?

Remember, even in NY and Illinois, about 35-40% of the voters vote GOP.

When Montana gets it second Congressional district (again) the state will then have one Republican and one Democrat rep.

Hopefully we stay at one for another decade.

It’s probably arguable that voter migration is making the ‘colors’ of both the departure and arrival states stronger: red voters in blue states leaving for red states, thus adding to the majorities on both ends.

I don’t know if anyone is trying to acquire data to prove that hypothesis, but it should stand up to common sense in most cases (though Florida - and perhaps Texas - could be counter-examples).

Liberals promote abortion ESPECIALLY in Black community and Poor communities.

Liberals don’t want them. They just want them to vote for them.

Population shifts are racist!

Don't give 'em ideas. They'll probably want to set up quotas before you can leave

Texas will shift to (D) within a couple elections with the huge influx of California residents.

Yep. Democrats are moving to red states. Hooray? I don’t see anything to cheer about here.

And Florida with the mass migration from Puerto Rico after the hurricane will see a shift also. If either moves left it’s over for America.

Ohio is supposed to lose one seat.
Let’s hope it’s Marcia Fudge’s

I totally disagree. I live in downstate Illinois and everyone I know is looking to relocate to Indiana to flee fat Blagojevich and the ultra liberal tax and steal corrupt Chicago controlled state. We are all hard core conservatives.

When I moved to NH in 1985 it was the last red state in New England. I moved from western NY for a job. Since then NH has become more and more purple, turning Blue.

People always blame it on the Massholes that move north. In reality it is people from many other states. The biggest blue areas are not the people who live in NH and drive to work in Mass. It is the people who retire to their lake front vacation home and then complain that their property taxes are too high.

The liberal areas around the various college towns are the problem(Keene, Dover, Hanover, Plymouth). The state capital in Concord, where too many people work for the government.

Pray that those fleeing the decadent states will not bring decadence to infect Texas, Florida, Arizona, Montana, and North Carolina.

The problem is that many refugees from California and other socialist republics keep voting in their new states for the same left wing crap that made their old states uninhabitable.

Yep. Colorado used to be a relatively conservative state. Not anymore. In fact, I don’t think Trump will win Colorado in 2020.
