It has been an emotional start to the new year for Rocio Rebollar Gomez and her family.
On Thursday, after 31 years in the United States, a country where she had built a life and raised three children, including a son now in the United States Army, Ms. Gomez was deported to Tijuana, Mexico, where she had little family left.
That son, Second Lt. Gibram Cruz, 30, who has been in the Army for five years and rushed to be with her the day after Christmas, said he was shocked at the way his mother was treated and called the actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement completely inhumane.

NYT-Speak for:
1. Less than 100 family members in TJ.
2. Many other (not to be mentioned) family members living in other parts of Mexico.
“I should think that would be more than enough to mitigate the circumstances”
Unfortunately...
It was completely inhumane to allow her to remain in our country illegally for 31 years, and we should solve that problem by deporting all illegals now. No exceptions. Get them back to their real homes before they put down roots in our country, or at least before they put down deeper roots. Thank God that President Trump is making new “migrants” wait in Mexico while their claims are processed so we won’t end up repeating this major mistake.
Multiple deportations. Wonder if her US Army son ever helped his mother commit her violations of federal law. Time to have a good look at him. A felony for alien smuggling might be what he’s due.
Could it be because you are living in Thailand?
Thats what I think. Seems like a simple solution.
Five years as a second lieutenant?
Something way wrong there. Maybe he was enlisted first?
Anyway, having a son in the Army is not a ticket to citizenship. She hasnt applied in the 30 years shes been here?
What is the Army doing commissioning people whose parents are here illegally?
Out.
A simple solution?
How about we revoke your citizenship and give it to this illegal whos been deported multiple times. Does that seem simple enough?
Please. Do not fall for this feel good propaganda.
<< “ She gave the US an Army officer. I should think that would be more than enough to mitigate the circumstances.” >
..........
There are responsibilities that just must go along with residing in the US without citizenship. Mitigating circumstances will get a hearing, but not until we hard hammer down, on the Illegal Invaders, and over-stay Visa holders and continuing flagrant abuse of our southern border.
They really are affecting even our representative apportionment and illegally voting.
Grant it, Ann, the fault lay with past administrations who cheerfully lured Mexicans in, for Cheap Labor, which was in turn a government pay off to the political Corporate Donor class. In exchange, for residency and work, our government Purposely failed to enforce our immigration laws.
But those days are over in the eyes of the American people, and they have been over since 911.
I didn’t know that it could be so hard if you were married to a citizen.
My son is a citizen, but his wife is Canadian. They are not planning to move to USA now, both have jobs. But I was wondering if they would have trouble if they wanted to retire here. He works in the USA, but travels back and forth to Canada each day.
Are some countries harder than others for sponsorship?
No. In an article on a different site they said she spoke through an interpreter.
It is sad parents do this to their children.
she was deported 3 times already and again came in illegally
Why did the army commission this guy?
America is supposed to be a nation of laws. Does this 2nd Lt expect enlisted servicemembers to do what he tells them? If so, why?
Excellent point! No doubt he had to have lied on a form along the way. Just had to!
My understanding is that the deportation criteria being implemented at this time is a sweep of the criminal records...
I was wondering that as well. I've known Sailors in the Navy who couldn't get security clearances to work certain rates because their parents were foreign nationals. And these were enlisted. I assumed commissioned officers had to be fully clearable?
He was born here. When he registered, they probably knew nothing about her....why would they??
5 years in the army and 2nd lieutenant? Something is foul.
Nope....They just ask names and relationship of nearest relative.
