According to a new poll of 625 registered Virginia voters, former Vice President Joe Biden is the only Democrat hopeful outperforming President Donald Trump in the Old Dominion, and not by much.
The poll, conducted by Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy, pitted the President against four Democrats seen as the party’s most formidable front runners: US Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and of course former Vice President Joe Biden.
According to the polling data, President Trump is leading Warren 48-44, Sanders 51-45, and Buttigieg 47-45. While Trump trails Biden 49-45, it would seem the President has gained extremely significant ground, as previous polls have reflected as much as a double-digit deficit for Trump when the two candidates are presented head to head.
The Mason Dixon poll carries with it a 4% margin of error, which when factored in, makes any one of these potential 2020 competitions a complete toss-up in a state recently considered a shoo-in for virtually any Democrat nominee.
In addition to being conducted in the midst of unpopular, highly partisan impeachment hearings on Capitol Hill, the poll’s results may have also been influenced by current events taking place in Virginia.
As has been widely reported, with Democrats preparing to take full control of the state legislature later this month, bringing with them promises of New York-style gun control and confiscation bills, Virginians of all stripes have responded.
So far, over 100 municipalities have declared themselves 2nd Amendment sanctuaries, vowing not to cooperate with or enforce unconstitutional gun laws.
The sanctuary movement, which has been described as a “2nd Amendment tsunami,” seems to have mobilized a seismic grassroots coalition statewide, and at this point, is sure to impact the results of the 2020 election as Democrats continue to wear the anti-gun label with pride.
Although Virginia doesn’t register voters by party, 42% of the poll’s respondents self-identified as Democrats, while only 30% identified as Republicans. The remainder called themselves independents.
This poll is hard to believe. I heard that Hillary has a 97% chance of winning.
I love it when a liberal in power delivers Trump more votes by his actions.
I think you can add at least 5% to the Trump totals

There was a recent VCU poll which showed similar results with likely voters.
For sake of argument let’s say this “poll” is accurate. What could it mean?
My take would be that Virginia Dems are not comfortable at all with the far left Lunatics but, they are comfortable with Slow Joe.
They are likely, my momma was a democrat, my daddy was a democrat, my momma’s momma and dad were democrats, and my daddy’s family were democrats. I’m a democrat.
Do not discount this. It is a real thing.
And, they feel comfortable with Slow Joe. But, they do not like the Extreme policies of the other democrats.
If my supposition is accurate then the Trump Teams job in defeating Slow Joe in VA is crystal clear.

42% Democrat? These aren’t old line conservative Blue Dog Democrats.
These are Yankee liberals. NOVA is gonna make the state go Blue in November.
Its always a tease until NOVA reports in the end. SOVA will go big for Trump.
But that’s not where the votes are.
You hit on a key factor of Democratic politics in Virginia...there are two groups. There’s the urbanized Fairfax type Democratic voter who’d easily vote for a far-left agenda, and then there’s the south-of-Manassas Democratic voter who wants a working-class agenda without all the identity politics involved.
You can ask a hundred Democrats around Richmond about gun agendas, and more than two-thirds don’t want much done. If you get over to the far southwestern end of the state, and probably 95-percent of Democrats don’t want any extra gun laws put into place.
County-wise in 2016, Trump carried a two-to-one county advantage in the election. But Trump lost by 210,000 votes...most coming out of Fairfax, Richmond, Arlington, and the coastal region.
Overrun by Yankees. Democrats start out with a 200,000 vote advantage. Unless you can flip the demographics, Trump isn’t going to win the Old Dominion State.
I don’t see him wasting time campaigning there.
Kentucky has a similar thing where they vote RAT in local election but vote R in federal elections. They also have a big voter edge there.
