When Army Captain Russell Rippetoe was killed in action on April 2, 2003 -- the first combat casualty of Operation Iraqi Freedom -- then-President George W. Bush spoke about how Rippetoe had on his dog tags "Joshua 1:9" engraved on it.
For the past 20 years, military members have been able to wear dog tags with Bible verses on them, giving them light and hope in some of their darkest times. For some Gold Star families, this is one of their most cherished possessions to remember their loved one who gave the ultimate sacrifice. But all this could be coming to an end.

Then there wouldnt be anything to hyperventilate about.
Trump will put the skids to this restriction.
This is a really idiotic thing to ban.
Weinstein: German.
Personally: he's a bigot.
yes, the can dictate what info is on the ISSUED tags.
Name, social, faith denomination, blood type, etc.
I had my tags wrapped with OD green 550 tape to stop the “tinkle” noise of metal on metal. . .and the chain that goes around your neck, I removed the threads inside a para-cord and threaded the chain through it to stop the metal chain from snagging on my chest hairs.
Good luck trying to unwrap the tags.
The regs I know of (Air Force) did not prohibit wrapping tags, learned about that tip from a Combat Controller.
The backside of my tags: “Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.” (Psalm 144.1)
There is no way a squad leader or platoon sergeant or commanding officer reads dog tags. It doesn’t happen. This is some idiot inventing a problem that didn’t need fixing. This moron doesn’t realize that we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Any of my soldiers could’ve had the measurements of the playmate of the month on their dog tags and I wouldn’t have cared if they showed up on time at the right place in the right uniform.
Whine-stein is an agnostic.
He is paternally Jewish, but is not (unless he converted, which I don’t know about) Jewish.
Probably both knees..................
He may not be now, but he will be in the future..................
But! But! The satanists can have a safe place at West Point.
Who’s the Commander in Chief?
A drumhead trial for the jokers responsible for this, followed by their executions, while the witnesses chant "all dressed up and no place to go" seems like an appropriate response.
That may be easy, yes.
But an even easier thing to do is respect freedom of religion. It’s really not asking much.
“Dont they have religious preferences already embossed on the tags?”
Yes, at least we did during the Gulf War.
As an aside, I am Jewish and was stationed in Saudi. One day, all the Jewish servicemen on the base were ordered to appear, where we were issued “Protestant B” dog tags — and we were told to stow our “Jewish” dog tags. Apparently, it was illegal for Jews to be in Saudi Arabia.
This was the only order I willfully disobeyed in the Army.
(And for the record, this current order is equally stupid.)
It’s going to be a lot of fun to see Trump demanding this be reversed, as a 2nd blow to the Obama scrum who still infect the armed services commands
Should have put a Prot J instead of a B ....
PS: And thank you four your service there! My 2 brothers were there also.
Why? Because the service defines what info is on the issued tag.
How can the complainer stop a serviceman from placing on the backside of his tag something special. . .Close to his heart.
This says more about the cowardice of the REMF Officer Corps than anything else.
