The Supreme Court on Monday temporarily blocked a ruling that requires accounting firm Mazars to turn President Donald Trump’s tax returns over to Congress.

This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.

OK, can someone please explain to me this obsession with Trump’s tax returns?

Three things:

1) he's probably worth less than people think and his foes would love to make hay of that

2) the kooky left will pounce on any of his investments or interests demanding boycotts and everything else that goes with that

3) they'll scream 'conflict of interest' and torture out arcane reasoning why specific interests of his prevent him from considering every piece of legislation that ever comes before him

Turning them over to Congress is different than turning them over to the NY AG.

What I’m mostly thinking of, is you have to give the IRS a lot of information about your activities and resources, which you would consider private, and which you would make it difficult for some adversary to see. If a rival can just walk over to the IRS and get your tax returns, they’ve got a cheap advantage over you, at least potentially.

This type of ruling is common in cases like this.

This is a very one-sided "harm" scenario that weighs heavily in Trump's favor. The Court is basically saying that Trump will suffer far more harm from having his private records released immediately than Congress would suffer from NOT having access to the tax returns immediately.

This simply means that no tax records will be released until every legal avenue available to President Trump is pursued.

Worst place anyone would want their tax returns to go is Congress but if they get Trump’s then Trump can get theirs

I suppose it’s just for fodder. With the tax returns they have a good 10-year supply of controversy feed, an enormous stack of free bingo cards, any one of which might (in their dreams) help them put DJT behind bars.

When you have a business empire like Trump, the neighborhood H&R Block isn’t doing his taxes......He’s dealing with big time tax attorneys.........

They just haven’t found the crime YET.”
.....
Yep. If you turn over enough stones, eventually you will find a spider that bites. Just look what the rats are doing with the phone call. Hate these bastards. A nothing burger phone call gets twisted into impeachment. Now the rats think they can subpoena anybody about anything. It’s a free for all now. Just heard now on the radio that Trump lied on the written responses to Mueller.

Exactly.
A guilty verdict in search of a crime.

As Hillary noted in 2016, "If he wins we're all dead".

Trump tax records would be used as continued distraction by pretend authorities to declare law breaking.

If they don't keep Trump on defense they fear the uncovering of the MANY Obama/Hillary FELONIES!!!!

The Left just wants to see if there’s anything they can spin to embarrass the President.

Yep. Oppo research for 2020 under color of law. Pretty much the textbook definition of a totalitarian state.

RE: Trump tax records would be used as continued distraction by pretend authorities to declare law breaking.

If there WAS law breaking, it is the IRS’ job to flag it and prosecute. Since Trump has been filing his taxes for years and we hear nothing from the IRS, where is the law breaking?

It is NOT the job of Congress to interfere with the work of the IRS.

Roberts tends to save his back stabbing for the big cases. This isn’t one. My guess he will side with POTUS here. Probably because the GOPe doesn’t want this precedent either.

“It sets an awful precedent if granted.

It makes the IRS a political investigation arm.”

For a change?

Yes-— which would make the IRS the true national Gestapo. The nazi gestapo had such powers.... against anyone, but especially those who were not Nazi party members.

One more example of the totalitarian socialist democrats— the Leftist Police State.

It makes the IRS a political investigation arm.

It recognizes the IRS a political investigation arm, at least when democrats are in charge.

What do they intend to prove anyway?

They just want to develop campaign memes from them. What they’ll do is spin perfectly legal shelters Trump is taking advantage of into big bad orange man steamrolling the American tax payer.
