As I understand it, her dad was a diplomat. Their children do not get birthright citizenship. There was a question about the timing of her birth and her dad’s leaving his assignment which led to her incorrectly getting a US passport.

Actually, the Obama administration yanked her passport and declared she was mistakenly granted citizenship because although she was born on .U.S. soil, her father was a foreign diplomat. Personally, I think they took those steps because she was an embarrassment (she made a video whilst burning her passport).

The exception might be if the spouse is a citizen of the hosting nation. The child could get dual-citizenship under certain circumstances. Boy meets girl in foreign nation, has a child together, the child could be a citizen of both the parents countries.
