Don't underestimate the unpopularity of Vietnam as it was on the public. In an ironic twist, Nixon, who wasn't responsible for us being in Vietnam but was instead the one who got us out of it, is blamed for Vietnam because it was under his presidency that we left Vietnam without winning. That may not be fair to Nixon, but that's how people saw it, even if they were the same people that fussed about us fighting and killing too much (basically not wanting us to win anyway). I think that had a lot to do with Nixon being impeached -- he was simply everybody's favorite fall guy anyway.

For my point, look at how Trump is being criticized for getting out of Syria. The same people who fussed at us for years for being in too many wars that don't involve us are now fussing at Trump for giving them what they wanted. Think about how much more people were like that with Nixon about a Vietnam war they hated so much more than Syria.

By the way, I think that also explains why were in Afghanistan way too long, in Iraq, in Libya, and in Syria. After Nixon's Vietnam experience neither Bush nor Obama wanted to be seen as the president who got us out of Afghanistan without making them surrender, especially since the reason we went there was 9/11. So Iraq had to happen to make us look strong while we were slowly withdrawing troops from Afghanistan. Same with Libya and Syria -- supposed to forget us withdrawing more troops from Afghanistan. But a better way to handle it would have been to go into Afghanistan with the same determination my grandparents' generation went into Japan after Pearl Harbor. Basically once Bush defined the war as being against an invisible enemy ("war on terror" instead of "war against Afghanistan) by fighting without really fighting ("feed their poor" and "win over hearts and minds") with no real measure of victory ("there won't be a treaty signing moment like we had on the USS Missouri" and "we'll be fighting the war on terror for the rest of our lives"), he basically put both him and his successor in the same situation LBJ and Nixon were in with Vietnam. I would have much rather us have made Afghanistan surrender to us within a year after 9/11, even if it would have involved doing real war like we used to -- back when we used to win them.

Thanks! I was only about 17 when all of that was happening and not much into politics like I am now so I knew it happened but now how/why it happened until recently when I saw the TV show and realized that it all sound familiar to now.

Watergate is much more similar to Obama’s behavior than Trump’s. Obama weaponized law enforcement against political opponents.

It began with the IRS against the Tea Party. He used the FBI, NSA and CIA against other political opponents. He wiretapped a Republican political campaign on flimsy evidence. His DOJ jailed people on laws that are never prosecuted. Manafort was selectively prosecuted, others not even tried. All political, all meant to compel further Stalinist show trials.

Obama and Brennan were famous for politicizing intelligence. Remember the 15 whistle blower analysts that everyone has forgotten about, who came forward and said that Obama and Brennan have changed their intel for political purposes. Where was the outcry for impeachment?

Obama shredded the Constitution, not Trump.

Idiots spend to much time listening to idiots in the DNC-Media. CNN personnel have admitted that they are no longer journalists, they are just mouth pieces for the Democrat Party. None of it is objective truth.

I was working for the federal government in the 1970’s and was aware of the situation concerning the Watergate Scandal.

Nixon was not aware of the phone taps placed in the DNC offices. The taps didn’t work so they had to go back in and install new mirophones. The actual Watergate came into existence when they busted the people trying to get the taps fixed.

Then the ugly started. Nixon arranged to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in “hush money” to the burglars. Then, Nixon and his aides hatched a plan to instruct the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to impede the FBI’s investigation of the crime. This was a more serious crime than the break-in: It was an abuse of presidential power and a deliberate obstruction of justice. That did reach the level of high crimes.

And later, the Supreme Court ordered Nixon to turn over the tapes he had. While the president dragged his feet, the House Judiciary Committee voted to impeach Nixon for obstruction of justice, abuse of power, criminal cover-up and several violations of the Constitution. He was toast. So, even though he did not supervise or have knowledge of the break in, he was guilty of crimes to try to shove it under the rug.

"It was Mark Felt aka “Deep Throat”, a disgruntled FBI worker who was passed over as head of FBI when Hoover died.

There was never any Deep Throat (except Linda Lovelace). It was a literary device Woodward and Bernstein used to fill in the gaps in their research so they could (pretend to) make their case. They simply picked a plausible suspect and waited until he couldn't defend himself before announcing his identity to the world.

Please read my post #68 and consider that they have absolutely nothing on Trump as the termination of the three a half year investigation found nothing except the president did exactly what he was required to do as per treaty.

Nixon in his efforts to hide it caused it to get huge so he blew it as an “after the fact” action. He resigned to save face for the impeachment process he would have had as they had evidence. Totally different with Trump.

There is a huge difference. Nixon wore out his welcome when he and Kissinger, dragged out the Vietnam war to no good effect for year and years. We did not have peace with honor or any such thing.

It could be argued that "they" got an unqualified Lying Kenyan with a sketchy past and forged documentation into the pResidency twice.

But if I said that, some would say I wear a tinfoil hat. Therefore, I will only drive a tinfoil Family Truckster. You think you hate it now, wait until you drive it.

Right.

My point was, the same forces that took down Nixon are trying to take down Trump, and with the same playbook.

My post was about Deep State-Media-Infotainment collaboration, NOT about whether Nixon deserved it while Trump doesn't.

It's true that I no longer buy the orthodox interpretation of Nixon's "crimes", but that's why I said in my very first paragraph, "I am lately struck by the similarities between the machinations that removed Nixon and what is going on now".

I wasn't writing about what Nixon DID. I was writing about what was DONE TO Nixon, and by whom, and why.

This was exactly what Rush was talking about today on his program...I didn't get to hear all of it as I had an appointment I had to keep but what I did hear him say was this is another way to get Our President out of office, take his people down, get his people arrested, investigated however they need to do to his people, and when I heard Rush say this, I remember how they took down John Dean and the others and now look at Our President, Gen. Flynn; Paul Manaford; Rudy; the Vice President; Pampeo; and the names just keep coming...

We need to get loud, we need to get mean and we need to drive the loony libs out of Our Country...

To stop a Congressman or Congresswoman from entering a meeting on an investigation like they did with Congressman Getz yesterday and to shut off Steve Scalie’s mick off because he was asking questions about impeachment is unheard of and another loony lib tactic to bring pressure to run Our President out of office...

‘Glued jaw’ Schumer is nothing but a two faced communist...anything he can do to put money in his pocket he will do...he is supporting any and all of the communists in Our Government today along with Fran Nan; Schiff for brains, the ‘got fired because she was pregnant’ Warren, ‘Pro Quo Joe’ one of the many biggest liars in Washington D.C. and I could go on...

We need to vote straight Republican on every ballot we mark, if you don't know what they are, look them up, research them...just today I got a ballot for Draper Utah for some such garbage people who I have never heard of and when I looked them up they were the dumbest people I have heard about so I scratched their names out and put my in, it won't be counted, but neither will that vote period...

Stand by Our President all times, the following are some links I found today:

“I was writing about what was DONE TO Nixon, and by whom, and why.”

If you’re referring to the methodology of the event, you are quite right. The major difference is that the liberals are changing the rules of engagement in this as defined in policies and laws that were put in place to create an honest and legal event to come to a legitimate conclusion within the law for both sides.

But as the “rules” get further and further away from a Constitutional provided litigation, it looks more and more like they are trying for the Scooter Libby style of investigation and evidence that comes from a questionable point of view rather than fact.

However, the really good thing about it is that if the impeachment is not attempted, or the evidence of the act becomes so blatantly created and stupid, they will be digging the hole deeper in 2020. And I’m not jut talking about the POTUS and Vice. This can twist congress into a pretzel of clobbered socialists and a room full of GOP office holders.

So this is not one they want to do. They wanted Nixon cause they had him. They don’t want Trump cause he has them.

They got Nixon because in the three channel universe of 1974 they managed to drive his approval number among REPUBLICANS into the 20’s.

Nixon did that to himself by attempting to placate the Democrats by supporting every liberal monstrosity from the Equal Rights Amendment to the Environmental Protection Agency.
