A Texas woman was shot dead by a Fort Worth police officer in her home after she heard noises outside, picked up a handgun and pointed it at a window, the officer's arrest warrant showed on Tuesday.

Atatiana Jefferson, 28, was playing video games with her 8-year-old nephew around 2:30 am on Saturday when she heard sounds in her backyard, according to the warrant for former Fort Worth Police Officer Aaron Dean's arrest for alleged murder.

The noises were Dean, 34, and his partner moving around the back of her home, without announcing their presence, after they were sent to investigate why her front door was open.

Now the fun begins, the cop is going to try to get off.

If the victim was a White male, the cop would walk, as he was quaking in his boots fearing for his life.

He may have trouble slipping out of this one though.

No, it's forbidden by their style book.

Wasn’t the gun reported by the only witness in the room - the 8YO child?

If so, we received critical information after the officer had been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion and has already left his job.

What is the actual truth I wonder. Why was this information withheld while the public was informed of just the kill?

I can only think we should dismiss initial reports by any MSM outlet for a few days. We never get the full truth.

If this is true it lends credibility to any “self defense” claim. And given that it was late at night it could be argued that the woman, too, had reason to be fearful.

Cop didn’t announce himself and in Texas it is legal to defend yourself against unknown people on your property after dark with lethal force.

Cop screwed up, even if she had a g*****n belt fed machine gun.

You mean dead women don’t usually pick up handguns?

It is a bad case.it would have been far better for the officer to announce himself, even if it had meant somebody getting away.

The cops have a saying that they will get the guy, even if not for this crime. They will get him for another.

We should ALWAYS dismiss the MSM reports, and we never get the full truth.

The Fake News Media went full political from the first word on this story, the second sentence was effectively "White male cop kills Black Grandma in her home".

If the races were reversed there would be no mention of 'em in the article and it would read: "Police forced to shoot gun wielding woman".

Obviously the cop thought he could just kill anyone he wanted to.

That's what I said...I said that under the circumstances it could be understandable that she was afraid.

No,that's not what it means...assuming that the kid is giving an accurate account (which I,at this point at least,am willing to assume is the case).

“The noises were Dean, 34, and his partner “

First I’ve heard mention of a partner. So the other cop didn’t think to ring the bell or knock on the door or announce themselves as police either?

Officer Aaron Dean, if he was an honorable man, should have immediately eaten his own gun after what he did.

His body cam clearly showed he did not identify himself and he was skulking around her house after dark.

In Texas, citizens are black-letter-law specifically allowed to use force up to and including deadly force to confront unknown trespassers on their property in the night time. It doesn’t matter if that lady had a f***ing flamethrower, RPG, or claymore mine - if she legally possessed it, she is legally allowed to use it to defend herself against an unknown trespasser after dark. The cop was already in the wrong, period, full stop. The body cam footage confirms it. The cop was not serving a warrant, he was there on a welfare check. There was no reason for him to approach the house stealthily. There was no reason for him to circle the house. There was no reason for him to shoot the occupant who quite legally was investigating the unknown trespasser on her property.

Oh, and if she’d shot the cop? Texas law, again, black-letter-specifically, says that you CAN use deadly force against police officers who pull exactly this crap. Texas Penal Code section 9.31(c)(2) and (d), plus subsequent sections. Section 9.32 does NOT exempt wayward police conducting themselves illegally from having deadly force used upon them.

Under the legal codes of Texas, the cop does not have a leg to stand on. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/SOTWDocs/PE/htm/PE.9.htm

Nope. Apparently they thought that “welfare check” protocols are the same as “no knock raid against drug dealers.”

Thank you. Well said.

The homeowner had a perfect right to defend herself, the intruder/prowler was engaged in suspicious and threatening behavior.

More importantly in this case, she lived in a state that specifically enshrines that right after dark. Going by the cop’s own body camera (the video is on the usual sites in addition to the media) there is zero question of what he was doing. FWPD released it immediately and it’s easy to see why.

He does need to be convicted. He committed murder, plain in simple

This undisciplined and incompetent idiot was sent on a welfare check because someone’s door was open. Instead of calling into the house to see if everyone was okay...he prowled around the house and shot the resident who looked outside to see who the prowler was.

This wasn’t an accident. Because when he didn’t call through the front door as he should have he initiated this. You don’t skip steps in procedure, and jump right ahead to the skulking in the dark with weapons drawn part. You don’t finally identify yourself to the resident as you are pulling the trigger.

It only reinforces the residents claim.
