Trump defends Giuliani amid reports of federal investigation
Washington Post ^ | 10/12/2019 | John Hudson

President Trump defended his personal attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani on Saturday amid reports that federal prosecutors are investigating whether the former New York City mayor broke lobbying laws in his efforts to oust the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yavonovitch.

“So now they are after the legendary ‘crime buster’ and greatest Mayor in the history of NYC, Rudy Giuliani,” Trump tweeted. “He may seem a little rough around the edges sometimes, but he is also a great guy and wonderful lawyer.”

In defending Giuliani, Trump revived one of his recurring conspiracy theories that a “Deep State” of entrenched bureaucrats and law enforcement officers are continuing to undermine him and his associates. “Such a one sided Witch Hunt going on in USA. Deep State. Shameful!” he said.

His vocal defense of the embattled attorney comes just a day after he seemed to put distance between himself and the former mayor when asked if Giuliani still worked for him. “I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to Rudy. . . . He has been my attorney,” the president said.

Following those remarks, Giuliani told The Washington Post that he was still Trump’s lawyer.

The president’s tweet follows a report in The New York Times that federal prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating Giuliani's efforts to have Yavonovitch recalled in a broader effort to pressure Ukraine into investigating former vice president Joe Biden's son, who sat on the board of a Ukrainian energy company.

Two of Giuliani's associates, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, were arrested on Wednesday on charges of campaign finance violations. According to an indictment that federal prosecutors unsealed Thursday, the men were working for Ukrainian officials to remove Yovanovitch from her job.

Giuliani has admitted to trying to oust Yovanovitch but denies violating foreign lobbying disclosure laws because he was acting on behalf

What do they mean “reports” of a federal investigation? Is he being investigated or is he not?

Such hilarious commie propaganda. Like Trump is the one who first said something about the Deep State. Under different names I've been talking about the Deep State with friends since the early '80s. Sit and spin, WaPo!

"Theory" my foot. More like the DEMONRAT plan since they figured out Trump was going to win.

Reports of a report. Sounds like the m.o. of Nanzi Pelosi's "wrap-up smear" squad.

“What do they mean “reports” of a federal investigation?”

The DNC Media are all playing this game. Same exact language from Fox.

Wake up call.

The fact pattern seems simple. Giuliani was pushing to have the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine fired.

He claims he was working on behalf of his client — President Trump.

Someone is alleging that he was actually working as a lobbyist for a Ukrainian political figure at the time.

It should be pretty easy to get the facts straight on this.

Of course he is because he supported Trump. Corruption at the “independent” rogue doj has been institutionalized because these people are either Rino establishment statists or left over communists and leftists.

We have to downsize all these fed agencies and move as much police power as possible to the States. The people cannot control federal corruption through the president or congress.

Our good progressive friends in the Southern District of New York are doing their standard dirt dives and trying to discredit Giuliani and his Ukrainian investigation.

I read that he is indeed being investigated, but for a while he was not aware of it.

Sorry, I didn’t save the link.

I don’t know why anyone would believe any media without corroborating stories from different sources. Especially when an article, like this one, starts in with opinions and characterizations about the subject.

No worries. Just a curious use of words. If he’s being investigated, why didn’t WaPoo simply say he was being investigated instead of citing a report of a New York Slimes report? Sounds like WaPoo knows they got nuthin’.

Giuliani was pushing to have the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine fired

She was an outright enemy of Trump, not just disloyal in words but actively plotting against him, even working with Hillary's team during the election

She's no victim, and he has every reason to get rid of her

I would certainly hope that Lawyer Rudy has all of his important files in a 2nd floor apartment, that belongs to one of his close friends. I am uneasy that the FBI is going to sweep in, contact CNN, and carry him and his files away, and he be in handcuffs. I wouldn’t let my computer or my files within a mile of the FBI.

The US ambassador (a holdover) was hostile to Trump and had been publicly denigrating and undermining him, and he had every right to dismiss her.

Giuliani was representing a couple of Ukrainian American (naturalized citizens) businessmen in Florida, where they seem to have run various dubious investment schemes. One suit was settled amicably -they paid the money back - and the other was ongoing.

They had been channeling some money to a PAC that went to several candidates and originally they were accused of being foreign nationals contributing to a domestic election. Then it turned out that they were actually citizens, so now they’re accused of having gotten some money from abroad. Who knows?

When I worked at GOP headquarters in a county in central Florida years ago (2004), an elderly lady bought a $1000 table at a Bush dinner on behalf of a small group of her friends, who paid her back individually for their share (which was only about $200 apiece, IIRC). The Dems combed through the records and accused the poor soul of being a straw buyer, that is, funneling other people’s contributions through her personal account.

People were scared to work for or contribute to the GOP because the Dems’ army of lawyers was going to look into every detail of their (perfectly harmless) lives and make them miserable with legal threats. Lawfare intimidation works.
