President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to send 'millions' of Syrians to EuropeCredit: EPA
Speaking to his party, Erdogan warned he would "open the gates" to spark a new refugee crisis if the EU dared to call 'Operation Peace Spring' an "invasion."
"Hey EU, wake up. I say it again: if you try to frame our operation there as an invasion, our task is simple: we will open the gates and send 3.6m migrants to you," he said.
He added that ISIS prisoners held by Kurdish forces would be kept in jail or returned to home countries willing to take them.
Turkey is currently home to around 3.6m Syrian refugees - a third live in 22 government-run camps near the Syrian border.
Erdogan's warning came as one expert claimed the Turkish invasion could trigger a ‘tsunami of human misery' heading to Europe.
Mark Almond, of the UK-based Crisis Research Institute, fears we could even see a repeat of the shocking 2015 refugee crisis.
His warnings come after the Turkish military pounded more than 181 Kurdish targets after launching a ground and air assault in northern Syria.

You talk of modern times circa the last 100 years, but it seems to me their history goes back a lot longer than that.
While I get your point about the Appalachians, I’m not completely sold on it
These have been a recognized separate people, even if they haven’t been dealt a territory of their own over time.
The Kurds are recognized as a large body of people. They have been rather autonomous.
They’ve been conquered a number of times over the centuries. I somewhat sympathize with them not wanting to be under someone’s thumb, subjecting them to military campaigns even incorporating chemical weapons against them.
Are the Kurds the ideal people, they might think themselves to be? Look, who in that region is perfect? Of course they’re not perfect. I still believe they should have a place to call their own
We’re talking about desolate places, where about all they are requesting are square feet of sand, with the exception of some oil rich territories. Those should be negotiated about in some form of a reasoned manner.
I’m not looking for them to be given the crown jewels of other nations. I’m not convinced that’s what they are demanding, although some of the oil field areas could be reasonably thought to qualify as that.
The whole Middle-Eastern region was divided up in the mid 18th Century. The nations that now have their own borders, seemed to agree that was a good idea back then.
Now it’s time for the Kurds to have a shot at autonomy.
I don’t think your comparison of lopping off a large tract of ground through the middle of the United States is reasoned. The Kurds are seeking a region that takes some land from three/four different nations on their borders.
Let’s recall that Israel became a nation due to some revamping of borders, so this sort of thing has happened before.
I would not be surprised if this is President Trump’s end game - give us an excuse to get out of Turkey, and to get Turkey out of NATO.

I know where you're going with this, but a bad analogy. The USA paid for that territory land from Mexico with cash and blood. Fair and square, bought from Mexico. We could have kept all of Mexico when we conquered Mexico City, but let them keep Mexico proper. We bought their northern territories in cash and forgave Mexican debt.

We came over to the new world. 80/90% of the Native American populace died of disease brought over from Europe, for which the Native American populace had no immunity.
We do have reservations today, where Native Americans live in a rather autonomous state. We’re not running military operations against them.
We’re not attacking them with chemical agents.
Are some of these areas poverty stricken? I believe so.
The Casinos on these reservations seem to help out with funding for the tribes.
Is this a perfect situation? I don’t think so. I’d like to see the Indian Nations flourishing to a better degree than they are.
I don’t keep up on the issue as much as others. I can’t speak with authority on the subject.

I don’t have all the answers. Maybe I’m totally wrong to think the Kurds should have their own nation. I’m sure there were a lot of folks who thought re-establishing Israel in the Middle-East was a terrible idea too.

Plenty of Kurds are bad communists and even terrorists and almost all are non-Christians. None are US citizens.
Thanks, that coverage of the Western U. S. was very good. It brought up some issues I’d never heard before, namely the hundreds of years old ranches, that were open targets of the larger Native American tribes in the region, with no protection from Mexico at all.
Since there was no direct administration during the “Mexican” ownership years, it diminishes even further the idea Mexico had a valid claim on this land.

Well the entire middleEast has just been a mess for 1400 years due to islam. Breaking up the Ottoman Empire was the end of muslim expansion and the Kurds got a country for a few years and then they didn’t.
Thing is, we didn’t sign either treaty. We have no power to create land for them. Should we just stay there forever and protect the area they inhabit?
In my Appalachian example. When they USA and then Canada were formed, the Appalachians would have had to become Canadians or Americans. Most Kurds are muslim so they already have that in common with the countries they inhabit. They might have to learn a slightly different language. They should have done all this in the 1920s.
If you want to go back hundreds of years, well then I guess all of us Americans need to pack it up and go back to whatever country we’re mainly from.

No one is outraged that this Muslim piece of S*it has invaded Syria, is starting a genocide against US allies, and has openly threatened to launch a devastating attack against Europe if anyone criticizes his action? If NATO does not respond very forcefully to these threats, Turkey runs Europe.
