Trump's betrayal of the Kurds is a gift to Putin and Assad
CNN (Communist News Network) ^ | October 8, 2019 | Nick Paton Walsh, Elite Intelectual Journalist

President Trump has clearly been itching to leave Syria for months, once dubbing it nothing but "sand and death." As Trump himself was at pains to point out, he was elected on a promise to get out of "these ridiculous endless wars."

But the speed of his decision to withdraw US forces from northern Syria threatens to wreck almost every goal the US has in the Middle East just now.

Firstly, the sudden withdrawal of US forces -- designed to leave their erstwhile allies the Syrian Kurds as exposed to a Turkish advance as possible -- comes just as a regrouping by ISIS was taking shap

Wait. The same CNN that excoriated Bush on the yellow cakes and harangued about “endless wars”. Now they want to maintain a war footing? Or perhaps they are simply laboring to drive a wedge between Trumps base?

My money is that CNN is simply trying to sow discord among “republicans” and, moreover, should something ever go wrong in Syria, you can bet your last dollar that CNN would pulverize Trump over it.

As an aside I was at a party with a neocon and like all neocons he thought he was ever so much smarter than everyone else. So he took it on himself to explain it to me why perpetual war was necessary to preserve the natural order of things among nations. He was very casual about throwing the lives of our soldiers away, basically said "that's the way it goes."

In which branch of the military did this neo-con serve?

Was it during any war time?

Any one in the military that has seen the death of a fellow patriot, would like to 'speak' with this neo-con.

We only have 25 troops there.

As of about two months ago there were about 1000. I don't see how it dropped to 25 in ten weeks. Link

Kurds are like Black people. There are both good and bad.

Those unwiling to stop their war with Turkey are the bad ones

Oh yeah, Assad...bad guy. He was the one leader in the middle east where you could drink alcohol, dance on Latakia beach in a bikini, be a Christian, be a Jew, be any species of moslem etc. Women could dress how they pleased, drive a car, have a job, travel, etc.

And State/CIA/USAID decided the Saudi Sunni throwbacks should have a wahabbist theocracy there instead. So we created and funded ISIS before they got out of hand. They were only supposed to overthrow Assad.

But any curious people out there ever wonder where the fleets of matching Toyota HiLux trucks came from? The matching uniforms and webgear? All the modern arms? Anyone wonder why they never worried about air attack and simply drove in massive convoys down MSRs on the open desert in broad daylight.

Our Syria adventure has been a complete joke. It resulted in the floods of millions of migrants into Europe, the creating of ISIS and more Sunni terrorism, and a tar baby we cannot extract from.

All so neocons like Bush and Hillary can play their grand game

Take the entirety of their corrupt media personnel and drop them where the Kurds are. We’ll see who ‘betrays’ who pretty quick.

The left wanted us to leave Iraq in 2004, which wouldn’t have helped the Kurds.

He never served, of course. But you knew that. In fairness, his real position was something along the lines of "it's regrettable that anyone has to die in a war but the greater good requires the USA to demonstrate a willingness to impose power globally so their sacrafice is needed for the good of the world."

I'm not down with "war is good".

If we wanted stability in Syria, Iraq and Iran, we should have left Saddam Hussein in power.

Bingo!

I would also add that most of these whining fidiots about the Kurds know very little about them or the complexities of the region which has been a disaster since WWII. America needs to disengage from the Bush and Obama era sh*tstorm.

It goes against the grain of Dhimmicrat and Republican Swamp Scum. To much money involved with the military industrial complex.

Bingo the real reason for the whining

CNN never cared about the Kurds before.
Until now, when they can make it about Trump.

I tend to agree with those Freepers who say if CNN is against it, then I am for it.

This issue has been discussed heartily on FR for some time. I have not seen adequate discussion of …

1. Russia's involvement with Turkey, Syria, and Iran. Just who has Russia provided its S400 air defense system to? (Iran?, Syria?, Turkey?) Russia continues to provide support to Iran's nuclear program. Russia has provided advanced aircraft to Turkey, a NATO ally? And of course Russia has expanded its naval base in Syria.

2. What is China's role in Iran? China's Belt and Road economic policy suggests to me that they will have a role in future Middle East politics. Isn't there evidence that Russia and China are revitalizing their old alliance?

3. I have not seen an adequate explanation of the differences between the communist Kurds (KPP?) who the Turks have been fighting for a long time and the Kurdish Peshmerga who we have supplied in the fight against ISIS.

4. For all his evilness, Assad did not seem to harbor ill well towards the Christian minority in the area. Is there a Chrisitan minority left in Syria/Iraq after ISIS?

5. I agree with the opinion that Iran will eventually overthrow the KSA. The Russia/Lebanon/Syria/Iraq/Iran/China connection bodes ill for Israel and western civilization.

I do agree that the mission in Afghanistan is a lost cause and we should pull out from there. Just what is our ground presence in Iraq and Syria accomplishing? It just seems to be a delaying action before the eventual Iranian/Iraqi/Syrian/Lebanese/KSA Shia caliphate emerges.

There are effective means of supporting the Kurds other than a handful of active duty troops with their necks on the line as a “tripwire”. Hearing CNN and the rest of the gang of idiots beating the war drums in reflexive opposition to anything Trump does is actually pretty amusing. I wouldn’t count on sincerity in the face of the fact that these same people were all for the Iraq war until suddenly they weren’t.
