Last December, the final phase of increasing the minimum wage in New York City to $15 per hour went into effect. (Well, at least the last stage for now.) It was considered a huge victory for the Fight for 15 crowd and, presumably, a big win for workers, particularly in the foodservice industry. So how has that been working out since then? As the New York Post reported this weekend, the law of unintended consequences has come roaring into play. They feature the story of one taco and tequila joint on the upper west side thats been doing a thriving business for a quarter of a century. But now its all coming to an end, and theyre far from the only restaurant feeling these effects.

Winning!
Or, not...
Just goes to prove that the minimum hourly wage really IS $0.
Exactly what the Democrats wanted. We’re creating too many jobs, and we’re seriously depleting the supply of dependent people.
Good, let those limo libs feed themselves.
So $15/hr is supposed to be a living wage in NY? Ha Ha Ha
Good thing AOC got her new job. Would have been layed off.
NOBODY saw that coming!
“Just goes to prove that the minimum hourly wage really IS $0.”
Absolutely!
Walmart and McD’s pay $14.00 per hour in my town.
It’s the wage the market demands...in the town eight miles west McD’s and other employers pay $13.00...It’s what the market demands.
Ah, the taste of socialist good intentions...Let the business owners make the mistakes, not government.
They should have held out for $20/hr!
Maybe on the bill, you get to tip the cook. It will change everything.
As long as you share your one bedroom apartment with 15 of your closest friends.
AO-C says that the Green New Deal will provide for a living wage to those who refuse to work.
Put that in your liberal pipe and smoke it.
The law of unintended consequences is known well to anyone in engineering/sciences.
It would appear that the only “laws” known the liberals are the ones they think they can pass.
I keep waiting for them to repeal the law of conservation of energy, make gravity an option, and legislate pi to be equal to 3.0
Such goes the progress of people with silly little law/political “science” and “studies” jokes.
Those people losing their jobs in the restaurant industry///
Well...
They got what was coming to them.
No doubt, most of them, if not all, voted for the people promising to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr. They got their way. And the restaurants sent them on their way.
I have no doubt that many of the restaurant owners also voted for those politicians that promised to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr. They got their way too. No doubt, they got theirs and sold off what they had left and are likely to move to greener pastures, where they’ll be screwing up matters too.
I was “lectured” on Reddit that the minimum wage was made so that people could at least afford a house making it.
*rolleyes*
I wonder if there are any conservative waiters in NYC...oh forget it....
I believe the dems once said that this would be a good thing. More time to work on poetry, music, other creative activities.
