An explosion occurred at the Vector State Virology Research Center near Novosibirsk . This research center has one of the most comprehensive collections of dangerous viruses in the world.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, on the fifth floor of a six-story laboratory building, a gas bottle exploded during repair work, after which a fire broke out on an area of 30 square meters. The fire is eliminated. One worker suffered. With burns of the second and third degree, he was taken to the hospital.
In Rospotrebnadzor emphasized that in the room where the explosion occurred, there were no biohazardous substances. At the same time, all the glass was broken in the building of the scientific center. In turn, the mayor of the science city of Koltsovo, where the "Vector" is located, said that at the time of repair the laboratory building was not used for its intended purpose. Nikolai Krasnikov said that the explosion occurred in preparation for the paintwork, and also assured that there was no biological hazard.
State Scientific Center "Vector" was founded in 1974. It is one of the largest research and production complexes in Russia, conducting basic research in the field of natural sciences. In the 1970-1980s, the center was developing biological and bacteriological weapons, as well as means of protection against them.
Also, a unique collection of cultures of microorganisms is collected at the Vector - in particular, this is one of two places in the world where the smallpox virus is stored. The center also houses the Ebola virus. Now Vector is part of the structure of Rospotrebnadzor.
A preparation of purified viruses would be mixed with buffers that protect them from ice damage and frozen at -80 C or on liquid nitrogen.
I have never made a virus solution or worked with active viruses; I am assuming that viruses would be preserved in a manner similar to bacteria and cells from multicellular organisms.
We're housing those in Los Angeles.
“The Stand”
>>Only from what I have seen on TV shows, but they always show stuff like that stored in glass vials... which just seemed stupid to me on the surface!

A think that is how the zombie apocalypse started.
chernobyle that’s all I have to say
That is extremely funny. You win this thread.
The problem with Vector is that that’s where they store and experiment on weaponized versions of smallpox, etc. Essentially very fine particles in canisters designed to be inhaled by massive populations.
Don’t worry - if the locals start dying we’ll hear about it in free non-state-sponsored Russian media outlets like Pravda and RT.
We’re housing those in Los Angeles.
The CDC in Atlanta supposedly has the only other stockpiles of smallpox outside of Russia. However, samples of the virus might be forgotten in freezers in any number of countries, and contaminated goods could be stored in your attic or your neighbors basement.
Haha, Pravda...you are about 25 years behind the times.
and it appears to have become habitual.
Is Vector a vector?
“Honey, have you seen the smallpox virus vial? It was right here on the counter when I was making the kid’s lunch for school. Now, where could it be?”
From Wiki:
In March 2004, smallpox scabs were found inside an envelope in a book on Civil War medicine in Santa Fe, New Mexico.[104] The envelope was labeled as containing scabs from a vaccination and gave scientists at the CDC an opportunity to study the history of smallpox vaccination in the United States.
Haha... Pravda is still in business. https://www.pravda.ru

I get your point! Holy cow...scary!
“the mayor of the science city of Koltsovo, where the “Vector” is located, said that at the time of repair the laboratory building was not used for its intended purpose. “
I guess we’ll find out .
pong
Or around anyone who’s been down wind or they’ve been around anyone who’s been down wind or that person who’s been around anyone who’s been down wind or.... and so on.
Oh, that’s just great. Put a few who were down wind of this latest on airplanes bound for major hubs and let the a/c and tight quarters do the job.
Yeah I know, but its kind of like a supermarket tabloid now, its not considered a serious outlet.
