Hey there, Kathy.
Yes, I took it somewhat easy today but did get a few things done around the house. It was too hot to think about doing anything outside. We are SO ready for Fall to move in but we have at least another week of 90s. *sigh*
And no rain insight. The farmers are making the most of the dry spell to get the crops in but is it ever trashing the air!
Now kicked back watching Hurricane Man on the Science Channel. He was in FL for Hurricane Michael. VERY intense.
Sgt York...a hero of heroes! Thanks for his story.
Howdy, radu! Hope you have had a good weekend! Mine was good. It’s not as hot so that’s a plus.
Rested sat and Sun, colonoscopy tomorrow, today is prep day. UGH!
Good evening, yarddog, and thanks for adding more information.
RIP Sgt Alvin York
Howdy, LUV.
Glad you’ve had a good weekend. Lucky you getting a little break from the heat. Da kittehs are probably happy about it too!
We had a slight cool-down - - lower 90s here rather than the upper 90s we had, and that’ll be the case through the next week.
It was a good weekend here. We had a slow day at the museum yesterday so I was able to get some much-needed cleaning done.
Rushed home to feed the cats then headed out for a meeting.
Just laid low today, staying inside where it’s cool.
SGT York’s US RIFLE CALIBER .30 MODEL of 1917 (the so-called “American Enfield” or “P17”) was turned-in for reissue to another GI when SGT York was returned to CONUS in 1918.
(The serial number of the rifle was LOST to history for decades, too.)
About a decade ago, the rifle’s serial number was located in a box of records & the rifle was finally located after an extensive search. - It now is on display at The 82D Airborne Division Museum.

Sorry that it’s been so warm there, but like you say, it’s the way pre-fall is in the south. Ours has hovered around 90, but the humidity is a bit lower, so it’s more tolerable. And yes, the kitties seem to be happier. They can stretch out in the shade and feel a breeze that doesn’t singe the fur off their bodies. LOL!
Good you got some stuff done at the museum. Even when it’s “slow” there are things to do.
Springfield 30.06 bolt action most likely
We were overdue for a hot summer though this one wasn’t one with a lot of triple-digit days. Just one with a LOT of days 90 and above. It could be one of those years we go from summer to winter with very little in the way of fall temps to enjoy.
Yep, a slow day is good once in a while so some cleaning can be done. We’ve been busy enough lately that I haven’t had a chance and no one else seems to think about it.
I finally got that 1914 newspaper I found in Clara’s house in a frame and it’s on display at the museum now. We have several with articles about WWII there and now have one with articles about WWI.
Cat’s don’t clean the house!
NOPE. = SORRY. The arms room card, from 1917 reads PVT Alvin C. York & it’s a so-called “P17 Enfield”, made by REMINGTON at EDDYSTONE rifle factory.
The MOST COMMON main battle rifle of WWI was the Model of 1917, i.e., the “American Enfield”, which imVho is a BETTER battle rifle than the 1903 Springfield ever was.

LOL! Cats sure don’t clean the house. I have to do that every day here. They’re real good at making messes.
We were talking about the military museum. Just haven’t had a lot of time for cleaning lately and I was glad for a chance yesterday. If I had a key to the place, I’d go up when it isn’t open and knock it out all at one time.
I’ll bet they were so happy to get that newspaper! It was quite a find. It would have given me chills to see one that old. Glad you realized what it was before chucking it as junk. eeeee!
Yes, they like it a lot.
And it came so close to just being tossed the night I found it in Clara’s junk.
Just never can tell what you can find in a pile of junk. LOL! Glad it made it out and to the museum. Now a lot of people will get pleasure from reading it. At least the front page of it.
Yep, one has to look at EVERYTHING closely in her pile of junk. There have been other things that would have been tossed that shouldn’t have. That’s why it’s taking forever to clean out her house.
I’m just glad there was the museum close by to take it to. It’s a neat piece of history.
