SGT York’s US RIFLE CALIBER .30 MODEL of 1917 (the so-called “American Enfield” or “P17”) was turned-in for reissue to another GI when SGT York was returned to CONUS in 1918.
(The serial number of the rifle was LOST to history for decades, too.)

About a decade ago, the rifle’s serial number was located in a box of records & the rifle was finally located after an extensive search. - It now is on display at The 82D Airborne Division Museum.
