Cruz Signals He May ‘Run Again’ for POTUS in 2024: ‘We Came Very, Very Close in 2016’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) isn’t taking another presidential run off the table — at least for 2024.

The Republican lawmaker — who dropped his 2016 presidential bid after trying to win over voters against now-President Donald Trump in the Republican primary — is open to a future presidential run.

In hopes of becoming the Republican nominee in 2016, Cruz fell short, as his support among voters declined in comparison to those backing then-front-runner Trump. A Gallup poll conducted in late April of 2016 shows Cruz at a 45% unfavorability rating among Republican voters, jumping from an unfavorability rating in the teens at the beginning of the year.

In an interview with The Christian Science Monitor published on Thursday, Cruz, however, is sharing how he’d be open to taking another shot at it.

“Look, I hope to run again,” Cruz said, adding, “We came very, very close in 2016. And it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.”

As much as we all hope and pray that 2020 results in a Trump victory, history would suggest that 2024 could well see a Democrat elected. And with today’s radical Democrats in charge, such an election could be a great leap forward for the socialization of America.

Of all democrats nationwide (and currently age 45-60 so they won't be too old in 2024), who would be the least harmful? Your priorities may be different, but my criteria are: (1) support the Second Amendment, (2) support border protection, and (3) love America. I know those are high standards for a democrat (or even for a republican), but I keep hoping to find even one who could become nationally prominent by 2024. Does anyone have even one such democrat who is not pure evil in their home state?

Knee jerk ad hominem attacks are so much easier.

Yep.....it always makes me laugh to see the Socialist's modus operandi being used on FR.

Cruz is MY Senator, and I'm fine with the job he's done. That being said, I think his time to run has come and gone.

The battle for America has changed all the norms. I'm not sure who can replace Trump to continue the fight....but it will have to be someone who can take punches, while never ceasing to take the battle to the opposition.

Lot of Ted haters here but never say never... you have no clue what the options may be in 2024.

Not voting is a free vote to the opposition and we don’t need 8 years of socialistic lunacy because the perfect person (no such thing anyway) wasn’t available.

4 - 8 years of bad is better than 4 - 8 years of social horror.

He seems to have enough sense to not run against Trump this election.

Time to break out the patented iSnarly trapdoor again, sounds like.

Stay in the Senate, Ted. You’re occasionally useful there.

Sen. Cruz needs to keep his mouth shut and focus on helping our President.

And I was an early Cruz supporter.

Calm down Vet!!! It’s not worth getting angry now at something that is 5 years away!! :)

I will come down on neither side but the side that says let’s get Trump elected in 2020 first and THEN continue the fighting over Cruz!!

I’ll have plenty of Italian heroes and beer ready when it comes :)

Cruz doesn’t have the temperament to be successful.
If he wants to have a job where he will have a long term positive conservative effect on the country SC justice would be better choice.

We could do far worse than Ted Cruz, for sure. In fact, I was supporting him in 2016 until I realized that Trump was: (1) serious about winning, and (2) was just going to overwhelm the entire GOP field.

Having said that, I will point out that I find Cruz's chances of winning a presidential election slim at best. I just do not envision a scenario where he wins any of the states that Romney lost in 2012.

During his last presidential run he was filmed walking up the stairs getting on the Hag’s campaign airplane. This dude talks a good story but so did Jeff Sessions to get on the inside of Trump’s team. Conclusion is obvious, Ted Cruz is establishment deep state up to his eyeballs.

I agree with you about SC Justice, he is far to PREACHER LIKE to ever be POTUS, and he is just another member of the swamp going along with however the wind blows!!! I don’t know where in the hell we will ever find another fighter like Trump, Pence is a nice guy BUT he just doesn’t have IT!!!! As much as everyone complains about Trumps tweets they are WHY we are so endured to him!!! What you see is what you get NOT a phony bone in his body, I can’t imagine WHY so called suburban women would rather have some phony politician!!!

After his “vote your conscience” statement at the convention, my trust level for Cruz is at zero.

He couldn’t see the bigger picture: that Hillary had to be stopped and Trump was the only alternative.

Instead of endorsing Trump, he tried to be too smart by half.
