Bolton says he offered to resign night before Trump announced his firing

Outgoing national security adviser John Bolton on Tuesday disputed President Trump's account of his dismissal, tweeting that he offered to resign before the president announced his ouster.

"I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, 'Let's talk about it tomorrow,'" Bolton tweeted.

Washington Post reporter Robert Costa and other journalists said that Bolton had texted them to make clear that he resigned.

The messages came moments after Trump rocked Washington with a pair of tweets that said he had asked Bolton to step down due to disagreements about policy.

"I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning," Trump tweeted.

The president said he would name a replacement next week.

What hubris....? He said he offered his resignation. Trump said ‘we’ll talk about it tomorrow.” Then Trump callously tweets the firing(um err “resignation after asking him to step down”. Bolton was feeling wounded not feeling hubris. Should he have kept it all inside and go quietly non public? Well, the debate shall rage on I guess!

Now if Bolton goes on the lecture circuit bashing Trump then my opinion of Bolton will become decidedly negative. Right now I’ll just watch and see! 10-1 Bolton will just retire and write a book no one will read and then maybe be found dead in a canoe somewhere!/s

Have really admired John Bolton for decades and was very happy to see him join the Trump Administration.

I also have admired Bolton for years and was thrilled to see him join the Trump administration. After so many horrible initial personnel choices like Sessions and Scaramucci, I felt Trump finally had made a strong choice in Bolton. I am not sure why Trump wanted rid of Bolton, and why he'd rather listen to a limp squid without experience like his precious Jared Kushner.

The seal of the presidency shows an eagle holding arrows in one talon and olive branches of peace in the other. In foreign affairs, a president must be advised concerning matters of defense as well as peaceful relations. That is why you hire a ‘dope’ like Bolton as well as others who may have other opposing views. A president must have all options open to him.

"I usually liked Bolton, but he was a little full of himself."

Agreed. If you are going to work for a politician you have to be a team player to an extent and accept that you won't get your way all the time. Bolton seemed unable to do this.

Iraq has become a disaster of epic proportions and it is pretty clear that, after all that has transpired , that it would have been better if we never had went into Iraq in the first place.

We paid a huge price to invade Iraq and depose Saddam but by the time GW Bush had left Iraq, the country was on the path to a brighter future.

Obama burned down the Middle East and Iraq was burned much worse than most.

The lesson is that the United States is fundamentally unable to exert military power in any fashion that results in positive outcomes.

We can defeat any standing military in short order, but ,due to the polarization in Washington, we are fundamentally unable provide a long term strategy to stabilize the defeated country and rebuild the nation into a representative republic.

As soon as the Democrats get elected, the fledgling democracy is set upon by wolves and destroyed

The Obama Afghanistan war Good - Iraq War Bad mantra really meant - Iraq is succeeding and may become a lynchpin of stable Middle East but vulnerable to Iran and Radical Islam so it must be sacrificed whereas Afghanistan is a lost cause but, if properly managed, has the capability of bogging America down in a demoralizing, losing standoff that bleeds our military budget and wears out our soldiers, tanks and warplanes and grinds them into the dust , potentially doing permeant damage to America's long term military capability

A president must have all options open to him

Hence the canning of this clown; his only option was endless, undeclared war.

There's a lot of truth in what you've posted, but I refuse to blame the Iraq disaster on Obama. That was a sh!tty, unnecessary war from the get-go.

George W. Bush and the band of @ssholes in his administration who put that whole debacle together own it.

If McDonald's hired someone to lead their product development division and the guy turned out to be a vegetarian who never stopped promoting the idea that the company should ditch all of its hamburgers, I'd say it would be shocking to find him still employed there after 48 hours.

Yes indeed they have- ever since Bolton tried to ramp up the shoot down of a Global drone by the Iranians (which also exposed someone in the Iranians who was getting the drone sat coordinates data from ... SOMEBODY in US operational internal security!!).

Why would they be doing this except as paid, or deep state rat screwers or Bushie/Hitlery pal imbeds both of whom WANT an Iranian “conflict” to develop to pay their mil industrial supporters with extended contracts, and let the iranians develop nukes.Remember Gina Haspel (Brennan’s “girl” second in command in obamaumao days) is Dir. of cia— and Coats has been replaced with a SEAL Navy Admiral as Dir Nat Intel. Coats gone- Mcabe hired by cnn— and deClas is coming, which will out a lot of people. Take note also— the “impeachment” clowns only weapon is to say they will— so they themselves will not be indicted for FISA gate. Worm is turning.

This is also timely in that Israel’s Netanyahu- who has labour lib Ehud Barak trying to unseat him, election is in 3 or 4 days in Israel. Mil industrial fronts who kick that money back to the bushes as political bribery, frankly— Beltway Bandits.

It’s quite possible that the Bushie pals they USED to have in the deposed Saudi family (Talwaleed long gone- bin Salman is in control and pro-Trump) placed Bolton in there in the first place, as a plant for the Bushes who are linked at the hip and shoulder with the clintooninan machine. This is not too long after the mossad’s compromise operation pervo- Epstein “killed himself”...to hide a long list of clients.

Next, Bolton “disagreed” with having “the taliban” (Pompeo called them “interlocutors”.. hired by taliban) at Camp David... when clearly— many many times- there have been secret and not so secret meetings there with terrorists. Bolton had no problem with McCain meeting with ISIS killers-— in Afghan/Pakistan who were later photographed together with other anti-Trumpers like..Romney bot clone, Better for America (Mitt!) neo con Bill Kristol’s “ pres-candidate” Mormon (cee eye ehhhh clown) Evan Mcmullin. Also photo’d was R-Congressman Kinziger (IL) who has recently been tweeting against trump meeting with the taliban!.

One more bushie/romneybot GOPe plant.... gone. Money is drying up for the mil contractors. BTW the interview with Pompeo— took up, each time.. 3 minutes on IF Pompeo was going to run for Senate in Kansas! They are still at it— chipping away at Trump’s team. For the last two years.

I could never understand why an America First President would hire two neocons, Bolton and Pompeo, as the face of his foreign policy.

“I won’t forget this! Bolton is a patriot!”

Why? There are too many important things to remember.

Bolton is a patriot, but seems a war monger too.

Bolton is a Vietnam draft dodger, but one of the biggest war mongers.

Sorry endless wars and spending money into oblivion is NOT a Patriot.

Given the vagaries of interpretation, obviously I couldn’t do much of anything other than taking my trump vote and shoving it up my butt. This event has touched me deeply in a negative way, is as best as I should have said it. This won’t go as well for Trump as folks might think it might.

A president will have peace makers and war mongers on his staff, it doesn’t mean that the war mongers must always get their way, but they must have their say.

Bolton was more of a fight and get out quickly sort of guy in my view. I don’t think he’d agree with endless wars that solve nothing. Such wars, if fought at all have to be fought with such lethality that the country would never accept the optics, and that’s what made Bolton non popular. A lot of folks in DC, Bolton’s age, on both sides of the aisle found ways to dodge the draft...even people we “like”! Why should Bolton be judged differently from them?(that said...a ding on Bolton’s image if true!)

Nahhhh, I’m just a “never say never again” pro-trumper. I’ll vote for him but I believe’s he’s being spiteful here. There are a lot of pro Bolton folks who won’t like what has happened.

Never fear. Trump’s still my guy!
