The actual number of false rape allegations is about 40%, by this article.

Lots of bad, ideologically driven "studies" out there.

Maybe she shouldn’t drink so much. Maybe that’s the problem.

According to a 2009 University of Massachusetts study, about two to eight percent of rapes reported are false.

******

I doubt that the number of false claims is that low.

After an acquaintance threatened to tell everyone she slept with that guy, it SUDDENLY BECAME RAPE.

She wasn’t raped.

ONLY IN THE MOVIES do you remember NOTHING after drinking and then the memories come back.

#### her. She shouldn’t have lied.

Once a woman decides on her own to behave like a whore, she loses benefits of the doubt she would have otherwise. Doesn’t look like a rape at all and it appears the police were correct.

False rape claimants need to be treated every bit as harshly as actual rapists.

On again, off again sexual relationship. Has limited to no recollection of events. No other supporting evidence. Text messages do not support rape. Some bruising indicated, but cause is unknown.

Even if she was raped, it is hard to see enough evidence to support a conviction of rape.

Frankly, if this was all the information at trail, there is no way I would convict. As others said, regret is not rape.

My wife used to work at a university in the office that handled student infractions from cheating on tests to rape. They almost never had a really credible rape accusation. Most of them were of the “regret” type, as if the women could turn back the clock if they could allege rape. Most of the people my wife worked with were leftist/feminist types, and even they didn’t believe the women.

The headline should say “student lied to cops. Now she’s the one charged with a crime.”
Jail her.

Pissed at her ex-boyfriend she takes revenge by filing a false rape report. And why not. She has been emboldened by the likes of Bret Kavanaugh’s accusers. Only, they only had to make their claims to silly congress critters, not the police.

The money quote of this story reads as such:

“Even if they decided that she wasn’t (telling the truth), even if they believed that wholeheartedly ... there is always a chance you’re wrong,” Rust-Martin said. “And to take this kind of action against someone that there is even a possibility was sexually assaulted is, in my opinion, a horrific misuse of the justice system.”

“The system clearly became really energized and eager to pursue this person who was lying and yet we do not become that eager and that enthusiastic about catching people who commit more than one sexual assault in our community.”

Some how I do not think that Ms. Rust-Martin feels the same over the top, suggestions that because the charged person “MAY, POSSIBLY, MIGHT NOT BE LYING” defense should EVER be afforded to the accused if they are male defendants!!

If she still used a flip phone the guy would be in jail by now.

Thank God for technology.

(Somewhat kidding)

Hmm, first she says she had consensual sex with him (while later claiming at the time she couldn’t actually remember what happened), then when someone threatens to tell her maybe-boyfriend she slept with his friend, she miraculously remembers that it was “borderline rape” and goes to the police but doesn’t want to press charges.

I’m skeptical.

“Even if officers and prosecutors don’t believe the story, she said, the choice to prosecute her set a dangerous precedent.”

How about the dangerous precedent of letting women falsely accuse men of rape with zero consequences?

According to a 2009 University of Massachusetts study, about two to eight percent of rapes reported are false.

This is some cutesy reporting of results.
2-8% of reported rapes are absolutely provably false (depending upon the study, environment, and definitions). 25-60% of rapes which are provable whether or not they occurred are false (also depending upon the study, environment, and definitions). Most rapes are not absolutely provable, as in the modern world there is quite often ambiguity in whether the sex was consensual.

BS. IIRC, the standard for the study was this: If the accused didn't positively prove his innocence, then the charge wasn't false.
