👍👌 Port has 4 letters as does left. Starboard has more than that so it was easy to remember. 😁 Unless you are upside down.

I dont understand the reported heavy list to starboard followed by a keel-over to the port side.
Sounds like a load shift, but how is this possible?

They were just stopping in to pick up some rats for the transatlantic journey.
You never can have enough rats, you know.

...LOL....yes, that’s the secret....and all of those JOOWs I served with (Junior Officers of the Watch) who carried those little slips of paper in their pockets which they would regularly refer to and which read “Port = Left; Starboard = Right”... ah, those good old days.... fair winds.... (Ex RM2)......

Very sad. I was just up there yesterday and we were talking about the enormous amount of shipping that goes out of that port. When you go up there, youll see huge parking lots. The US companies deliver cars there and then theyre taken on to other destinations, in the US or abroad.

Theres a massive BMW staging area there. Drove by there a couple months ago and could see hundreds, if not thousands, of new Beamers waiting to be moved. There is a BMW plant in Spartanburg, SC so I hope they were being exported and not imported.

If a container on a container ship is damaged in any way, all the cargo in that container is sold for salvage value. Cars on these ships are basically just in a floating parking garage, though, are all are likely going to be destroyed because of the potential for liability.

The ship was leaving the port with a load of 4,200 vehicles when the rollover occurred. Coast Guard officials would not speculate on the cause or contributing factors Sunday. The load shifted. It's not rocket science.
