Amen. Once you leave terra firma you are no longer on top of the food chain.

Sure, loads shift, but they don’t shift back...
“a heavy list to starboard followed by a keel-over to the port side”.

Seems to be riding too high if she was loaded with 4000+ cars.

She looks to me more resting on her port side on a bar or something.

Tugs pushed her out of the channel and she is on the bottom now.

We were stuck in Golden Isles Marine for the last 3 months due to a broken feathering prop on our sailboat They come and they go there, but, only about twice a week. We would watch them o by fron the docks.

We went out of that channel week a go Thursday. Ocean was indeed calm inside the harbor, and it is 40+ feet deep in there. BUT, once you are in the channel, you do NOT, go out of it for a long way. The channel goes straight through the bar and it is 40+ on one side of the markers, 2 feet on the other. You have to be on point all the way out.

We are now in Beaufort, SC after a delay caused by Dorian. We went out Warsaw and came in Port Royal. It was a washing machine out there. We are gonna run the ICW for a bit.

Hyundai manufacturing plant is approximately 100 miles west of LaGrange in Montgomery, Alabama.

Mrs. Repeal drives a Kia...it has been a great car!

Is the clock working? They pushed a software download recently that trashed the GPS clocks. There are 4 possible fixes on the internet, the third one worked for me. Or the dealer will charge a few hundred to diagnose and fix....

The Kia and Hyundai engineers have been known to do some really stupid things. They probably need to sack a few of their senior engineering guys and change the culture.

If a container on a container ship is damaged in any way, all the cargo in that container is sold for salvage value

My mom was a secretary for a marine surveyor on Terminal Island, LA/LB —basically the insurance company’s person who assesses cargo damage. She would sometimes bring home stuff that was declared worthless—nothing big or fancy—stuff like beer.

Maybe 40 years ago there were a whole bunch of tiny Japanese cars that sat in a huge parking lot for years before finally being sold. As I recall they had a 3 cylinder motorcycle engine. Anyway a car dealer was selling two for $900. One to drive and one to use for parts.

About a year ago, I took it in for service and they did a software update...
Afterwards, Mrs. Repeal noticed the temperature readout was in centigrade...
I took it back over there and it took (not exaggerating)
6 technicians 20 minutes to figure out how to make it display fahrenheit!

OK
Is the port at Mobile not an option for Hundai?
I have spent a lot of time waiting at rail crossings in small towns in Ga
waiting for hundred-car trainloads of Kia’s to pass through on their way to Brunswick...
maybe some of them were Hundais from Montgomery...

They might have split up or they might have capsized

They may have broke deep and took water

And all that remains is the faces and the names

Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

The winds of November haven't yet begun to blow. You get demerits for invoking Edmund and Gordon out of season. As a Michigander, and as one who has seen the boat museum, I am authorized to sentence you to....Two weeks in Hell.

2 weeks in Detroit? That’s awful harsh. (^;

Mobile doesn’t have a huge RORO facility like Brunswick.

Mobile has a hard enough time unloading Airbus A320’s from Hamburg and loading coal from Birmingham.

After retiring from the Coast Guard, my Dad was a marine surveyor in Baltimore. I worked for him for a while supervising the off-loading. Mostly vehicles on RO/ROs. But he had guys he’d sell damaged containers to for the insurance companies.

Whoa!! I don't have the power to hand down that kind of punishment!! I think only Bill Barr could send someone to De-troi!

The deep channel with shallow margins as described can cause interesting behavior in a ship. It has been mentioned that the overturned ship met another entering the port. Ships in such narrow confines suction water from ahead and raise levels behind. Pressure waves created by their movement can create lateral movements in other vessels. A ship within a channel which closes upon a margin with a drastic change in water depth will shear away into the deeper water. All these possible factors will be examined.

The Jones act requires cargo produced in Georgia to be carried on American vessels bound for Baltimore.

The ship in question had imported automobiles to be delivered in Brunswick and then Baltimore

Container ships routinely work all east coast ports where they pick up and off load containers
