The man who killed seven people in Odessa, Texas, over the weekend had been fired from his trucking job hours before the mass shooting, according to multiple reports.
The gunman, identified Sunday as Seth Aaron Ator, lead officials on a high speed chase during which he indiscriminately fired on motorists and police officers. Ator was killed after being chased by officers.
The New York Times first reported that Ator had been fired from his trucking job in Odessa.

He was pulled over Saturday by state troopers for failing to use a turn single before beginning firing, according to police.
An additional 22 people were injured in the mass shooting, which was the second to strike Texas in August.
Ator had a criminal record but there were no open warrants for his arrest.
Despite the reports of his firing, police say a motive is still not known for the shooting.
There are no definitive answers as to motive or reasons at this point, but we are fairly certain that the subject did act alone, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said at a news conference.
Falling Down, starring Seth Ator.
I just hate it when people don't use their turn signal before firing. Sheeez.
I think the cops may have noticed him driving erratically and used the failure to signal as pretext to investigate. Good instincts, horrible outcome.
He’s going to be the poster boy for red flag laws.
“Falling Down”.

Yes, beware any suddenly unemployed middle aged white male.
Lose your job, lose your guns.
Reminds me of a song-
“Yeah, they sent the tax man, I lost my job, and you got hooked on oxycontin, they shut the lights off, they took the car and I bought a sawed off shotgun”.
Great song, about sums up the whole falling down thing.
As a drug addict (which was why he was fired) its already illegal for him to own firearms.
Had he failing to use a turn married before beginning firing there wouldn’t have been an issue. 8>)
He didnt even have water in that shack of his. Uncertain whether turned off or just not hooked up
Note to self: never hire anybody. /s
Culture is another reason so much has been outsourced.
“I just hate it when people don’t use their turn signal before firing.”
Well, I always do. Don’t want to get pulled over.
There is no city water in west Odessa. You have to have your own well.
Its not part of the town, just scrub in the county that is a giant trailer park.
Or maybe he had made a threat to his employer and they reported him to the police, so they were on alert for him.
Good instincts, horrible outcome.
He stole a US Mail mini van. That vehicle is not capable of high speed as indicated by the Highway Patrol! The troopers should have crashed that mini van off the interstate, they let it go on way too long!
It 25-30 miles between Midland and Odessa. No balls on those troopers, they were just tagging along to see the finish!
Especially after the cops knew he shot a cop and AND the postal employee.
The cops should have rammed/PIT’d the postal van at the first opportunity.
Explorer or Tahoe vs the rear axle of a ford Windstar would not have been a contest.
Where are the editors?
So, guy gets fired in the morning, goes home, sulks, and instead of taking responsibility, he decides to go back to work with his gun, and is stopped by the police on the way (Who know nothing about him getting fired) and he goes ballistic. I have been at work several years ago when a disgruntled worker came in with a gun, shot 4 people, and then killed himself. The four people lived.
I wonder how many people were shot by being in the gun battle crossfire?
