You’re right. Even snakes. A few years ago I had a major landscaping project done on my front yard that included laying down a nylon mesh to retain the grass seeds. A couple of young rat snakes got caught in it and I rescued them from it. Of course I like to have snakes, frogs, toads, turtles, and lizards around the place.
Nonsense-as long as your have your pets spayed or neutered-which any responsible pet owner does with their cats-or dogs-and scoop/clean each cat’s litter box daily, you will not have any odor problems-responsible owners make sure their pets have clean toilets.

I have a Pitt mix; Pitt, Boxer, and Rhodesian Ridgeback. She was abused and up for euthanasia, having been bred multiple times by at least one previous owner, and has a broken tooth and dental wear from chewing on a cage, on top of a slit-shaped scar across her neck which we assume came from her pulling on whatever was used to restrain her. Another friend of mine has a pure Pitt originating from the same shelter. He was left in an alley to bleed out with a broken jaw, slit across like Heath Ledger’s Joker, at 3 months old. He’d suffered abuse and a curb stomping. Literally.
Two of the sweetest dogs ever, and very obedient. Mine is a certified therapy dog, and is being trained to help me with household tasks when I have to sling my arm (neuralgia caused by nerve damage). She opens doors for me, and we’re working on her carrying items for me as well, especially if I drop something. I have spinal fusion occurring between the L5 and sacrum, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis (at 32 no less).
Fighting dogs are mistreated constantly, abused into violent behavior. They’re also not fixed, which adds to aggression. They do not fight females, but may use them as bait dogs if they fail to produce “quality” offspring. Dogs aren’t usually aggressive out of the womb, with the exception of the Olde English Bulldog, which is now extinct for that reason. The Molossus is also extinct (long extinct), but were trained into aggression as well, though their prey drive made them easy to train as war dogs. The Staffordshire Terrier was initially bred as a nanny dog, even-tempered but wary of strangers and protective of children.
Of course, like people, dogs have personalities. Their notion of what to fear is imprinted at 2-6 months of age, so many things may cause a dog to react negatively when they’re older based on those experiences. Equally, like people, some dogs just suck. They were either not socialized properly or don’t trust people for whatever reason. If you own a dog like that, it is your responsibility to ensure they remain separated from others or receive exposure therapy in a controlled environment to alleviate that issue. You must also be in control of that dog at all times.
As far as crazy cat ladies, one was a manager whom I worked beneath when I was a teen. She had a bunch of cats which she called her children, despite having biological children (grown). Their relationship was strained because she preferred the cats. She also stole medication from me on multiple occasions, badmouthed our boss and called him incompetent to customers’ faces, and was extremely lazy, not to mention stealing money from our employer. Her son did the same thing. Both were fired, but it took too long for the boss to fire her. The badmouthing was the last straw.
The other cat lady I knew was my ex’s aunt. She had dozens of cats, and her intellectually challenged husband did basically whatever she said. They frequently stopped paying rent due to very little income, and would flee from their leases while owing numerous landlords. I haven’t seen them in about 11 years. I assume not much has changed.
I'll go you one crazier than that. I had a cat lady client that when she lost one of her cats she slept with it in her bed for two weeks after it passed away and then wanted us to send it off for cremation. Another cat lady client was evicted from her apartment because the urine from her cats began to leak into the apartment below her. Those are just two of the instances of many.

Some people own a lot (whatever “a lot” means) of cats because they rescue them. Then they IMMEDIATELY take them to be fixed before bringing them home. They’re actually quite calming. For a few months we had eight cats/kittens that we rescued, and SPAYED and/or NEUTERED them. We’re down to five, and that’ll be the end of it. We’re too old to be rescuing pets that easily could outlive us.
When she dresses up her cat in baby clothes & makes her boyfriend push it around town in a stroller, she’s wacko, y’all.
My former cat was leash trained and was very good on that but off the lead he did tend to mostly do as he pleased with in the rules of the house.
I can not imagine teaching one to sit on command though. Maybe I will try it.
What else are you suppose to do when they die in the middle of winter and you lack a Bobcat? Cremation in the fire place is frowned on.
I do admit keeping them beyond the spring thaw is a little strange. :)

Me, I love cats, I love dogs, but have no time for pets. Home a few hours a day and what would they do the rest of the time? I like working fireplaces too. But these things are why youtube is my favorite hangout.
