Two of Russias nuclear radiation monitoring stations went silent two days after a mysterious explosion that led to a radiation spike in northern Russia earlier this month.
Russian officials say at least five nuclear engineers were killed during a rocket test involving isotope power sources on a platform in the White Sea, leading to outside speculation that the accident involved a nuclear-powered cruise missile. Four international stations designed to monitor nuclear activity had detected an event coinciding with the [Aug. 8] explosion in Nyonoksa, Russia, the worlds main nuclear test-ban body said on Aug. 10.
The Dubna and Kirov stations told the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) they were experiencing communication and network issues shortly after the explosion, its chief Lassina Zerbo told The Wall Street Journal.
The two stations are part of an international network of more than 300 stations set up to verify compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). They are the closest Russian stations to the Arkhangelsk region where the blast took place.
We are pending further reports on when the stations or the communication system will be restored to full functionality, Zerbo was quoted as saying Sunday.
Daryl Kimball, the head of the Arms Control Association NGO, called the data disruption a very odd coincidence.

And there were some folks who got massive doses of radiation who are hidden away somewhere and probably are in pretty bad shape.
Isn’t that EMP?
Would be interesting to know what our shuttle in orbit, assuming it’s not stuck in orbit, caught.
A nuclear-powered rocket.
What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Its a nuclear powered ram jet, it uses heat from a nuclear reaction instead of fuel.
As I said, what could possibly go wrong?
There may be some good images that we will never see.
The US military, NASA, they’re all LIGHT YEARS behind China and other countries.
Until something FOR REAL happens and the enemy doesn’t know what hit them.
Like Iron Mike said “Everyone’s got a plan until they get hit”.
I bet our capabilities for catching images from space are pretty incredibl.
> after a mysterious explosion that led to a radiation spike in northern Russia
There was no explosion. You’re delusional.
So much for the promise of Rinos and democrats regarding the clear sky agreements being honored. I hate these so called think tanks of Confederation of AMerican (so called) Scientists and what not. All this sht comes from them, letting CHina arm itself while we let RUssia do overflights of Area 51 or Hawai.
We have a shuttle?...In orbit?
who designed that hmi system? Cavemen?
The X-37 space plane. Unmanned. The AirForce never reveals what it’s mission is. Been up thete over a year, IIRC.
Yeah, combining highly radioactive nuclear reactions and highly explosive rocket fuel ...
“what could possibly go wrong”
(even the US gave up on this concept years ago)
Note: No bunkers when on platform at sea.
I’ve not heard if this explosion is the one videoed we saw a few days prior to announcing this rocket mishap or entirely different.
So nuclear radiation is natural; vegan and low calorie with 0 carbon footprint and great for climate change
