Trump Is Unlikely To Commit Political Suicide by Betraying Us On Guns
Townhall ^ | August 12, 2019 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 08/11/2019 10:15:55 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Donald Trump is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them. Like all of us, he is understandably horrified by the murder sprees of that progressive environmental eugenics weirdo and that member of Big Chief Warren’s tribe.* But Trump is also keenly aware that any betrayal of his supporters on a literally life or death issue like guns – if you’ve been listening to the left you have a good idea what miserable fate awaits you if you get disarmed and they take power – will result in his wholesale abandonment by his supporters. No, his base probably won’t go vote for the furry, or Doxxy Castro’s brother, or Gaffe-y McOldenheimer. His base will just stay home. Trump will lose, the GOP will lose the Senate, and the left will take over. And bad things will happen to the liberal elite’s enemies, not least of all to Trump and his family.

Trump understands this. And he understands that the media is trying to get him to alienate his own supporters. But so far, he has never stuck us in the back even after the garbage media eagerly reports on his conciliatory talk on subjects near and dear to us in the hopes that it means a betrayal is incoming. It never has been in the past. There’s no reason to believe he would sell us out now.

We would not forgive him. To go left on guns would be, at a minimum, political suicide.

GOP neocons and RINOs will force him to do that.

President Trump is a political genius, very unlikely that that he is not fully aware that political violence in this country almost exclusively comes from those who hate with a demonic desperation to thwart his MAGA agenda, pro-God, pro-patriotism agenda.

I hope the article is right and it makes a good case that he is once again using “Drunken Monkey” Wu-Shu tactics.

BUT I am already ticked off about the illegal bumpstock ban which may have been an attempt to “throw the left a meaningless bone” but was still totally illegal, a horrible precedent and a serious blow to the overton window.

All this talk about gun control after the recent shotings is doing even more damage to the overton window too.

Comments?”

None good.

I wonder why Kurt Schlichter thinks that “improved background checks” and red flag laws with “due process considerations” aren’t political suicide themselves?

A) Sick of people turning the heat on Trump when it needs to be on the corrupt leadership of the NRA. They need to get their act together and Wayne Lapierre is a creep!

B) Florida
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Michigan

Among others are the states Trump needs to win...to win...Is writer suggesting that ‘solidly’ red states will go Dem should Trump make any move?

People sitting out the vote only to leave us with a socialist in office instead? Well that’s a nice scenario ain’t it?!

EXACTLY SO. = The RINOs, “country club republicans” & other “moderates” will whine, complain, posture, HOWL, whimper, “make policy statements” & in the end of the “BIG DEAL” on “additional gun control”, NOTHING will actually be signed by the POTUS.

Just ISN’T going to happen.

Great post

My worry is that he thinks some new background check along with red flag laws are just another “meaningless bone” to throw to the left.

He’s one of us.

He’s playing them.

They will ask for the moon, he has veto pen and the bully pulpit.

Also how Sen Rick Scott, as FL Gov caved to the "DO SOMETHING!!" opportunistic ghouls by raising the age of buying firearms in FL to 21. When my mom's uncle was 18 he, like many other guys in his situation was being shot at by nazis. Fortunately thanks to his rifle and training he received courtesy of the US Army he was able to take out a few of them and received an Honorable Discharge.

Ivanka is likely weeping for gun control response and the GOPe and RINOs will tag along. We are at risk of Trump signing whatever comes to his desk unless enough clear voices speak up and say No! Or, more constructively, how about funding a study of red flag laws to model something that respects individual rights, offers due process, and recourse to keep or restore rights? And, how about tying that to an end of deadly Gun Free Zones? And, while we are at it, national reciprocity?

The heat needs to be on Trump to stand firm. Yes, keep his feet to the fire—protect our 2nd amendment, end deadly gun free zones, and, hey, how about enforcing existing background check laws? Embarrassing that 15 million illegal aliens (and others) attempted to buy guns, were flagged, but then never tracked down, arrested, charged, convicted, and jailed or deported. Why have the background check and laws if they are ignored?

Especially in light of what he writes about in his books.

He writes well about tyranny and the tools of it’s power.

They both need heat, LaPierre is standing up for our rights better than Trump right now but he is also responsible for Caving on Red Flag laws last time.

If Trump does fold and signs gun control we will be better off putting the craziest commie we can find in office and starting the revolution than keeping him and letting the frog be boiled slowly.

I’ll still be voting for PDJT. Even if he screws up more on the 2nd. He’d still be miles ahead of the alternative. But don’t tell him that.

Sadly, I think Trump is woefully ignorant about firearms in general and the acquisition process through FFLs and Form 4473 that asks pointed questions, which, I believe, if you lie on the Form, has serious consequences. The FFL then calls the FBI for background and conveys The Who and what of the transaction.
