Red Flag laws are a big fat nose under the tent. So are extended background checks which precedes gun confiscation. No one wants to see madmen armed but more importantly; no one but the gun-grabbers want to see all of us disarmed. In their utopian world view all crime will stop if we cannot protect ourselves because the all knowing and all powerful wonderful wizard of OZ, er, the government will see to our protection.

At the same time cow farts will look like rainbow clouds and the Easter Bunny will be taking the next census. This is how the unicorn coalition thinks.

They can't see nor accept the way the world is; they can only envision their world view which is pure fantasy. They are truly and immeasurably dangerous. Far more dangerous than the mass shooters will ever be because as we saw during the last century corrupt governments kill their own people deliberately and mercilessly to the tune of 150 million souls lost.

Remember him dangling dreamers to get wall funding, then getting wall funding anyway while still being able to say Dems were to blame for not helping dreamers by refusing to deal?

I think something similar will develop from this.

I don't know if the President has articulated it, but it would be helpful to point out without ambiguity that the entire gun ‘debate’ is being grotesquely mischaracterized and lied about by the very leftwing political culture that both glorifies violence, and fans the flames of conspiracy that has the intended and predictable consequences of ‘setting off’ individuals with mental health problems or other ‘issues’. And in light of that, that he as President will not only resist the left’s call for ‘gun control’, but will actually champion legislation to strengthen the 2’nd amendment so that no citizen may again have to die defenseless in a ‘gun-free-zone”.

That's called taking political lemons and making lemonade.

Our ability to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government is the only thing we have left. Take that away and it’s over anyway.

Any one who would vote for a dem it sit on their hands or vote third party instead of voting Trump is insane. That got us Obama....not once but twice.

Every election is critical. The socialist/communist are very close. Every vote is critical

Just watched her video presentation on this issue at an assembly in Massachusetts. Perhaps you have watched it, perhaps not. Forty-five minutes of worthwhile information. Pass it on.

Re: “Unlikely to betray us on guns”

That’s not exactly the ringing endorsement I was hoping for.

My top two issues are massive immigration and insane government spending and government debt.

I can’t claim that Trump has betrayed me on those issues because I never believed anything he said about immigration, spending, or debt in the first place.

If Trump decides to move Left on guns, he will use the same time honored strategy he uses for everything else....

“I’m helpless.”

Helpless against the courts. Helpless against the Democrat controlled House. Helpless against the RINO leadership. Helpless against existing laws and regulations. Helpless against the MSM. Helpless against the Deep State. And, helplessly betrayed by every person he appoints.

I am frankly tired of the normal shriekers who wail “sell out” every time some WAPO journalist tries to convince him to do so, and then the howls and wails go up from the usual crowd in the gun community.

Can you not see you are being manipulated by the press and the leftist establishment? Sometimes being cynical is not “wise” but being a pushover for someone else’s agenda. Stop and think about it. Trump is, going away, THE most savvy and shrewd and politically aware guy I have ever seen. He knows who is base is, plays to THEM with his tweets, and is very careful not to alienate them. He stirs up stuff deliberately to keep them on his side, and either enraged, amused, or disgusted by the leftist media. Do you REALLY think he will just say “oh well, we have to disavow 2A because... mass shootings?” Really??? You buy that crap?

He is a politician, or at least a political figure. He understands that you cant just piss into the wind of public opinion...., but he also knows that public opinion is NOT the elites propaganda spew. That is what got him elected, and he gets that.

Even if you think he has ZERO principles, and is utterly Machiavellian in his decision making, he knows what got him elected, and what the critical elements in that the decision making process to vote for him are.

He also knows where the bodies are with the Clinton murder cabal. How long do you think he will live if they take over.

Crap, if *I* can figure this out, do you think he is so stupid he cannot?

Show some basic reasoning, people.

Schlichter makes a good case.

I have thought the same, but President Trump’s tactics do make one nervous.

This comes at a time when the NRA is in disarray because of internal politics and abuse, and external attacks by Cuomo in New York, where the NRA is legally incorporated.

What would the alternative be? Let in a dem who would be even worse? Disillusioned Trump supporters would for the most part have to choose the lesser evil.

To go left on guns would be, at a minimum, political suicide

He allowed - nay, insisted - that the BATF declare bumpstocks to be NFA items.

What's next? Standard size AR magazines?

I'm in wait and see mode, but also buying mags.

Agreed.

I like Kurt Schlichter and have read his books. I also regularly read his Townhall column, so this surprised me.

My guess is that Mr Schlichter is trying to rally the troops by pointing out that we can get ahead of the Dems on this issue. In this way, we head them off at the pass by passing extended background checks and red flag laws that won’t be the intentional tools of abuse that the dems would pass.

Once again, just a guess.

Any gun owner worth the name knows how to make a bump stock. That is why the ban was meaningless.

Not so with so-called attack weapons.

My guess is that he will not cave on this. He is concerned and has shown it. But the Constitution trumps all.

As was written in an earlier response. Let the socialist win and let’s get the inevitable revolution started sooner.
Food for thought....

The two fed laws that have already been proposed, one by Feinstein and one by Rubio(because Parkland) would have fedgov give Grants & Guidelines to States that want to enact red flag laws. Well as we’ve seen before, most States have never seen federal $$$ they didn’t like, hence our wonderful education system.

There would be a few States that won’t do anything and people would possibly move from purple states that do enact red flag laws to those solid red States that don’t. Maybe not enough to turn said purple states blue but some. We can’t afford to lose any purple/swing states. This is just another one of those things that would chip away at republican’s chances of winning the presidency.

How many Ohioans or Pennsylvanians moving to a solid red State would it take for those States to turn blue? Most purple states are slowly turning blue already and some red States like Texas are turning purple. We don’t need anything that’s going to help that along.

Having fedgov give $$$ and guidelines to States to enact laws isn’t much different than simply enacting them as federal laws. It’s nothing more than a work around. Just like edu, there will be a federal agency handing down rules. If the states want the $$$, they will do whatever fedgov says because the states will have spent that money in their ‘budget’ before they even get it. That and state politicians tend to line their pockets or do political favors with fed money.
