Several gondola cars came crashing to the ground early Saturday in British Columbia after someone apparently cut the cable, according to Canadian officials.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a news release that employees at the Sea to Sky Gondola noticed a cable down and saw several gondolas on the ground around 7:00 a.m. After an initial assessment of the situation by employees, the RCMP was contacted and are currently treating the incident as "criminal in nature."
The popular sightseeing attraction is located in Squamish, British Columbia, about 40 miles north of Vancouver. The attraction gives guests a 10-minute ride, rising to over 2,900 feet above sea level and "provides sweeping views of the Howe Sound and surrounding mountains."
Each gondola car can carry up to eight people, and feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
The RCMP said Saturday they are working with Technical Safety BC and the gondola's manufacturer, Doppelmayr, in addition to walking the gondola line so that it can be properly inspected. Authorities are also asking anyone with information or who may have been in the area at the time to contact them.
The RCMP said that they are looking to speak with hikers, climbers and campers who were in the areas of the Sea to Sky Gondola as well as the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Bolt cutters would not work. Torch or cutoff saw.
It’s a gondola. Not a death ride. They aren’t even exciting. Slow and pretty.
I know, but cut-off saw doesn’t trip off the tongue as well.
Can you imagine the back lash and whip around when that cable was cut? I can.
Amish dont do mountains much honestly at least at least not on this continent
Were you thinking another sort of Amish rain man?
Do they have airbags?
The proper term would be Eco Terrorists.......and yes, you are correct
Reason #3 why I don’t snow ski.
Is this the same gondola as pictured in XFiles?
ELF/ALF/Greenpeace
You are wrong. Freeper dont read the whole articles or posts
Yeah, living north of Seattle I don’t notice the Canucks being in more lefty than my own neighbors.
Getting gas in the Indian-owned stations is a challenge but it is a challenge here in Washington state. By that I mean our indigenous Indians.
I do......In 2003 I was on a ski trip to Whistler and Black Comb and made the mistake of wearing an American flag pin on my ski jacket. I got nothing but bad looks from the lift attendants and even had one female stationed at a quad lift who was supposed to slow down the chair for the riders but didn't for me, even after I wished her a pleasant good morning then "smack" in the back of my legs from the chair.
I don't know if she was a Canadian or one of the many Australian ski bums working out there..........
The atmosphere then in early March was kind of strange.........
I spent the first three days skiing with my nephew and his buddies in the poor weather (drizzling rain) then the next two in the condo watching the beginning days of the Iraqi war..........
I hate to rag on the Canadians since my step sisters and step-mother are all naturalized U.S. citizens and staunch conservatives. (Step-mother now deceased).......
See? We can be friends.......... :)
I have never been to the one in Squamish so don’t know if it was an older gondola or not.
You must be a noobie (yeah, I see you passed your 20 anniversary, but holy s#it, have you actually been on FR the last several years!). As pointed out by others, Amish is a running joke on FR when Islamic Terrorists are at work. No, I am not an embarrassment to FR, and I have been on FR longer than you.

One does not simply “cut” heavy gage IPS ( Improved Plough Steel Cable without tools like Oxy-Acetylene or high explosives. Having spent a bit of time working with such cabling, these boys probably are in the 2+ inch diameter several hundred wire braid cables.
“Golly, wonder what that dude is doing with the OxyA torch cart in back pocket?”
...Environmentalist or Muslim?...
One or the other can be just as bad.
Did anyone hear someone yelling the Allahwhacko Snackbar yell?
I don’t go to high places for the view unless there’s a mountain under my boots. I had a fall when I was a kid and developed a diversion to heights, I guess.
I haven’t fallen from a height BECAUSE I have an aversion. Even climbing metal grated stairs more than one story makes the back of my legs shiver. If I go into a lighthouse, I have to avoid looking down while climbing.
Gondolas are perfectly safe as long as muslims and antifa are not in the area.
