LUBBOCK, Texas - An alert grandmother who knew what her grandson had been planning may have stopped a mass shooting before it could happen.
Special agents with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested William Patrick Williams, a 19-year-old man from Lubbock, Texas, the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of Texas announced Friday, CNN reported.
The man, according to federal officials, had bought ammunition and an AK-47 and had rented a hotel room to plan a mass shooting, CNN reported.
He had wanted to "shoot up" a hotel and "then commit suicide by cop," according to the Attorney's Office. Williams told his grandmother about his plans, and she urged him to go to a hospital and get help.

This might get him some small time but doesn't address the underlying problem with his motives and obvious mental illness.
This was an actionable offense but they had to dig to find a crime. Holding up in a hotel/motel room with a rifle and ammo is not a crime in free states.
I think the bigger question is what happens with this guy from this point forward. Unless they can legally determine he is mentally incompetent, which I think can happen, they really can't hold him all that long. I hope they can help the kid but I have my doubts. The cost of keeping him in one of the few mental health hospitals will be astronomic.
Sometimes I think the most humane thing to do is what we do for animals that are clearly mad/insane; put them down and out of their misery. The brain/mind is permanently broken. Nothing good can come from keeping them alive except maybe a paycheck for some poor schmuck who had to tend to him while keeping him loaded up with Thorazine. Too bad our laws don't allow for this kind of thing. Maybe it's time to make new laws. It would sure be one way to get rid of all the dems. (LOL) No doubt they would try to turn it around to do the same to right wingers.
