In January Proctor & Gamble and Gillette decided to run razor ads trashing men and toxic masculinity in a courageous ad campaign.
The company decided the best way to promote their product was to attack their customer base.
The new ad highlighted sexist and bullying white males in the United States.
Of the 43 abusive males in the ad 42 were white. 7 of the hero men out of 8 in the ad were black.
The ad did not do so well. Many users promised to avoid the product.
The ad had 642,000 down votes after its first two days on YouTube.
All that wokeness did not pay off for Gillette and P&G. Gillette lost $8 BILLION in the second quarter.
Reuters reported:
P&G reported a net loss of about $5.24 billion, or $2.12 per share, for the quarter ended June 30, due to an $8 billion non-cash writedown of Gillette. For the same period last year, P&Gs net income was $1.89 billion, or 72 cents per share.
It looks like trashing their consumer base with feminist lecturing was not such a good idea, huh?

‘get woke, go broke’..
I switched to Harrys razors after that.
When my existing supply expires Im switching to something else.
But think of all the virtue signalling in the board room.
that’s my problem....and I’m getting near.
I think we sign up for Harry’s?
The prices for Gillette razor blades are outrageous. People stopped buying Gillette and bought much cheaper razor blades.
Switched to Barbasol shave cream and Shick razors.
So did I.
Years down the road, this will go down as one of the stupidest business and marketing decisions ever. Same for the NFL’s and Nike’s embrace of Colon Krapperdink.
I figure Harry’s razors spelled the downfall of Gillette. Plus the relentless march of electric razors that have gotten cheaper and better over the years.
Maybe Gillette saw they were getting killed in their male market and decided to take a risk by pushing strong the female razor side, which meant abandoning the male brand that built up over the years.
The gambit failed.
You can buy Harry’s at walmart now.
Oddly enough, the ads prompted me to buy a 2-year supply of Bic Metal disposables from Amazon, which is the only place they can be found, as far as I know.
Good single-blade disposable razor. Who needs three or more blades that just clog up when one good blade will do the job.
Bic Metal has been around for a long time, but for reasons I fail to fathom, it can no longer be found in drugstores or even Walmart.
Walmart has Harry’s razors.
Good! Bunch of idiots, they deserve to go bankrupt!
You don’t have to sign up. You can buy the razor and the refills at Walmart. Bought them for my boys.
I switched to Schick as soon as I ran out of Gillette blades. Just as good.
I switched to Schick as soon as I ran out of Gillette blades. Just as good.
I threw away Gillett products, won’t be buying Gillett products in the future.
Going to take me a couple more years to get there. Between a thick beard and skin that gets irritated very easily, I tend to shave 3-5 days apart. If I do it every day, I rash up quite severely. Been that way for 45+ years.
I actually found the Gillette Mach 3s work well for me, and a few years ago I stumbled upon some coupons and store deals where I was able to purchase 3-packs for less than $3. I still have a ways to go to get through the supply.
Schick razors and barbasol cream is where it’s at
