The current campaign to amend federal and state civil rights laws to extend protections to sexual orientation and gender identity isn't meant to eliminate discrimination — it's meant to eliminate religious freedom.
What else are we to believe when proponents of such amendments tell us as much?
Earlier this month, Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss introduced legislation to amend the state's civil rights law to add sexual orientation and sexual identity as protected classes. One of the main objections to changing the law before now has been the harm it must do to conscience protections and free exercise of religion. Like their federal cousin, the Equality Act, these laws can't ensure equality because, as gay writer Brad Polumbo explains, they work by "elevating [LGBT] rights over those of religious Americans."
Senator Moss isn't even pretending this isn't the case. As reported in the Oakland Press, Moss said:
[T]he legislation will not make exceptions for those whose religious beliefs condemn homosexuality and other lifestyles[.] ... That would mean, for example, that a Catholic school that teaches against homosexuality could not discriminate against a homosexual job applicant on the basis of sexual orientation.
Bakery owners and photographers could not refuse to serve a same-sex couple's wedding on the basis of religious beliefs.
None of this bothers Moss, who "says he is gay as well as a practicing Jew," and doesn't see what the problem is. He "knows plenty of rabbis and other religious leaders who support the legislation." Besides, believers who don't see it his way just don't understand the Bible, or their own faith: "A few passages in the Old Testament (teaching against homosexuality) don't give people the right to discriminate. I don't believe there is a conflict between religious values and treating everyone fairly."

I thought it already was. The GAYSTAPO is out there suing businesses that don’t or won’t serve them.
That’s the whole idea.
Making LGBT a Protected Class Will Kill Religious Liberty
In states where sexual orientation is part of their anti-discrimination laws. This bill would add it to Michigan's.
Yup. The Left is OK with perversion, but perversion is not truly the foundation of Leftwing philosophy.
The foundation of Leftwing philosophy is hatred of God. The pushing of perversion is just one of the tools they use in their war against Heaven.
That’s the goal.
Romans 1:18-32 says why the championing of homosexuality is on the rise: people are refusing to retain knowledge of the Lord.
Getting to the point of advocating for homosexuality as a cause like so many do is like a proverbial canary in a coal mine. It’s something so obviously morally wrong in Scripture that by the time it starts a lot more has already been compromised away and abandoned. Instead of doing what real miners do when the bird dies these cultural miners rejoice at how tolerant, kind and understanding they are and press on to where the air is even worse.
If they saw this as a sign of the danger they’re in they could repent.
It’s already killed Free Speech. It has to stop.
Not to worry islam is now a protected class and their war plan will trump everything
Yep. They became a special protected class ages ago. “Making” — what a ridiculous assertion.
The entire first amendment is on the table.
I oppose have any protected classes.
Bill of rights for all of us. Thats all.
SCOTUS. The real prize in the fight for America. And Trump is in the way. They’ll have to pack the court, or wait a generation, if DJT continues to pick Justices.
Is there any news yet about a Moslem-owned business being forced to accept the non-straight folks? So far I have only heard of Jews and Christians having to give up ground on this issue. What is Ilhan Omar’s stand on homosexuality?
Ordinary people need to be made a protected class.
So there are rabbis who don’t believe in the halacha, don’t take the words of the Torah as perfect? Pastors who do not believe Sodom and Gomorrah or how Jesus spoke about a millstone being place around the neck of a person who destroys a child?
No dire warnings and historical proof of homosexuality and immorality taking down nations including Israel, Persia, Greece, Babylon, Assyria, Rome? Nothing? Just a few verses? Paul’s words, nothing? Revelation? Nothing?
Yeah make em a protected class, what could go wrong?
Exactly. Commies don't give a rats hiney about LGBT people. They just want to outlaw Christianity because it is their biggest obstacle in the US to getting their foothold.
That train has pulled out of the station long ago and is far down the tracks. LGBTs are a protected class now.
I agree with the headline.
Christian churches are not allowed to have core beliefs any longer.
As for Islam, they can still have core beliefs that include murder, rape, pedophilia, and terrorism.
It’s sort of a don’t ask don’t tell situation there.
Last time they lost 2:1, and got cast out to a lower place.
For the people responsible, this is a feature, not a bug.
It is an Intended Consequence.
