How Roy Moore Could Actually Win Alabama’s Republican Senate Primary
FiveThirtyEight ^ | Live Blog: Women’s World Cup Jun. 20, 2019 | Geoffrey Skelley

A large primary field may fragment the vote, making it unlikely that a candidate could win a majority and avoid a runoff and making it easier for Moore to advance to a runoff with only the support of his base.

The point is that Moore does have a path — especially a path to a primary runoff if there’s a crowded GOP field. And if he does get there, he would be only one step away from a rematch with Jones.

Moore would still have a decent chance of winning a general election in conservative Alabama, and that is surely a big part of why he’s running again.

Ed Gillespie

He lost to a guy who wears a white hood and calls himself "coon man" so why would anyone get behind the GOPe?

The Moore naysayers are living in the PRE- Kavanaugh world.

Moore can ride the anger against the Democrats over the Kavanaugh debacle all the way to the Senate.

What you say, and also (IIRC) Mister Moore admitted to "dating" the teenagers when he was in this thirties.

The campaign ads for Jones write themselves, and even worse, it hurts other GOPers, including our President, just by potential association w party.

How does the primary work there? Does a plurality win it, or is there a runoff if no one gets 50%+1 vote?

If he wins the nomination, he is very likely to lose the general again.

Very likely.

He will be responsible for keeping the sear democrat. Democrats really, really want him to run.

I think the dynamics have changed in several important ways, and it is quite possible that if Roy Moore runs, he will win.

First of all, a Presidential election year will produce a greatly increased turnout by Republicans in Alabama, while I believe the Democrats threw everything they possibly had into the 2017 contest, and so now they will simply not be able to match the Republican turnout.

Secondly, after so many people woke up to the fact they were launching lying smear attacks against Justice Brett Kavanaugh using false sexual accusations, people are now less willing to believe these 40 year old accusations from two kook bitches that never should have been taken seriously in the first place.

Thirdly, I have been told that Moore gave a speech during his announcement, and he seems to have learned a bit better how to play the game of politics. People said he dealt with the issue forthrightly and matter of factly, and he actually sounded more competent and on top of it than he had done in his previous efforts.

Roy Moore may very well win it, and then some people will end up having to kiss the @$$ of the person who's toes they have been stepping on.

My recollection is that Levin did not get on board the Trump train until others had got it rolling.

Right now, I am confident that Roy Moore will carry the fight against the baby killing Democrats.

It is time for Republican voters in Alabama to send Moore a message that he is history and not wanted.

He got 651,000 votes. I'm not sure there are enough other Republicans to send him a different message.

Exactly! I don’t care how “normal” or “reasonable” it was in his response to the “find a spouse” conditions of the time & his locale. The optics no longer “play” in a positive way. Unfair yes, sad yes but that’s the way it is! I still think he is a very untalented as a campaigner which makes it 10 times worse.

Whatever Roy Moore is accused of pales in comparison to that of the Senate RINOs who have sold out America to drug cartels, illegal immigrants, endless wars, and globalist trade deals.

I don't care what he was accused of, what was he found guilty of?

Name one public policy Moore backed that was Leftist in nature.

It’s really sad to see people who think of themselves as Conservative, jump on board the GOPe, RNC, and Democrat campaign smear tactics against Moore.

With all the same people against him that were against Trump, Moore came within a very thin margin of winning last time.

With all these groups against him, people now attribute him loosing to poor campaign tactics. No, it couldn’t be that he was sabotaged by even the people who should have been championing him.

Where do folks get this kind of logic from, RNC central?

The optics of a man well into his 30s "dating" teenagers simply is unrecoverable.

Yes, the most serious consideration for selecting a Senator is whether or not there is 10 year age difference between himself and those he has dated.

Meanwhile Jerry Seinfeld at 39 was dating a 17 year old, and nobody in New York or Washington DC complained about it at all.

Why it's almost like the whole thing was political or something.

There was enough that didn’t show up the last to in effect keep him out of office! He had 14% registered voter advantage over his opponent! He couldn’t motivate his “advantage” to show up!
