A large primary field may fragment the vote, making it unlikely that a candidate could win a majority and avoid a runoff and making it easier for Moore to advance to a runoff with only the support of his base.
The point is that Moore does have a path especially a path to a primary runoff if theres a crowded GOP field. And if he does get there, he would be only one step away from a rematch with Jones.
Moore would still have a decent chance of winning a general election in conservative Alabama, and that is surely a big part of why hes running again.

Judge Moore will shake things up in Washington!!
Cry Democrats Cry . . .
Here comes the lib cheerleading.
Hopefully Moore is dead in the water.
You are about to be descended on by people doing the bidding of the Ministry of Propaganda.
He will be responsible for keeping the sear democrat. Democrats really, really want him to run.
Sessions should announce he is in, IMHO.... He’d win without any issue.
But, I tend to give a candidate ONE chance to beat another one. That is because things seldom go better the second time around.
Same thing with Hillary.
He’s a loser who will lose again.
Correct but he has been exposed as a Deep Stater. I mean, I'd accept a win from him, and still not expect much by way of conservative values out of him any more.
Agree.
Go Roy!
Whatever Roy Moore is accused of pales in comparison to that of the Senate RINOs who have sold out America to drug cartels, illegal immigrants, endless wars, and globalist trade deals.
I tend to agree with you.
The VA GOP keeps foisting Ed Gillespie on us, he lost a Gov. race and a Senate race.
I live and vote in Alabama. Roy Moore lost to Jones once before and if we are stupid enough to nominate him again, we deserve 6 more years of Democrat Jones. It is time for Republican voters in Alabama to send Moore a message that he is history and not wanted.
He’s no Romney, Murkowski or Collins... He’d be a more reliable vote than any of them when it comes to things, and a I’ll take him in the Senate over a D holding that seat any day.
Moore had his chance, sadly, he lost... I do think he could win the primary, with a split field. He has a very loyal base, but as the last cycle showed, not enough to win the general.
In fact, from the end of the article...Trump said the consequences will be devastating to his agenda if that happens. And that might be true Moore would probably improve Joness chances of winning reelection. (Jones even egged on Moore to run again.)
The optics of a man well into his 30s "dating" teenagers simply is not unrecoverable.
Far better to get a younger, more dynamic, and more photogenic (and preferably a veteran) candidate and one with no (real or imaginary) toxic baggage.
Again...
The optics of a man well into his 30s "dating" teenagers simply is unrecoverable.
.
You want SESSIONS???
GET BEHIND ME SATAN!
his defenders here “know” that never happened. How they know, no has been able to say. They just “know”.
Very rationale!
And which Republican do the democrats want to run against?
Roy Moore.
