The already large field of Democratic presidential candidates has grown again: Joe Sestak, a former Pennsylvania congressman with an extensive military background, said Sunday that he plans to seek the presidency.
Im Joe Sestak, and I wore the cloth of the nation for over 31 years in peace and war, from the Vietnam and Cold War eras to Afghanistan and Iraq and the emergence of China, he said in a video announcing his candidacy.
A retired three-star admiral, Sestak represented Pennsylvanias 7th congressional district for two terms, from 2007 to 2011, and has mounted two unsuccessful runs for the US Senate.
His experience, during his 31-year naval career, included a command position in a region now much in the news: In 2002, he led a carrier strike group during combat operations in the Gulf.
Sestak, whose father was a navy man, also served on the national security staff under President Bill Clinton. He holds a doctorate in government and political economy from Harvard.
Sestak has a reputation as something of a maverick and party outsider.
He is pro-choice, supports gun control, and backed the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Sestaks late entry into an already crowded field which he said came after his daughters brain cancer returned will complicate his path forward.
Along with three other candidates, he missed the cutoff to be included in the first two televised debates, which will feature 20 Democratic candidates and be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Miami.

“wore the cloth of the nation?”
CAIR-PA's Iftekhar Hussain affirmed to WND's Aaron Klein yesterday in a recorded interview for Klein's WABC radio show that he hosted a fundraiser for Sestak during the 2006 congressional campaign. But in an April 9, 2007, radio interview with WPHT's Dom Giordano in Philadelphia, Sestak told a caller he had never been at the CAIR leader's home.
Another ideologically pure Admiral. There’s nothing new here. A careerist. A REMF.
My prayers for your daughter Admiral, however, you will never get my vote at the polls.
Google McNamara's 100,000.
Mayor Pete has been attacking President Trump for his lack of military service (based on his own 6 months on a base in Afghanistan). The admiral may be planning the same line of attack and hope to be taken more seriously. It didn't work with war hero Kerry in 2004.
pathetic grab for campaign cash.
He’s really running for VP slot on the Dem ticket.
McTurd lives
Kinda the same way that Joe LIEberman is a "pro-Bush conservative Democrat", Bill Maher is an "outspoken libertarian" and Jon Stewart is a "fed up Independent good government guy calling out the political establishment on both sides" when all three of them blindly support 95% of the RAT party platform and its candidates.
My thought also. Hillary wants to take the easy way to get the nomination. And Sestak helps her and at the same time gets some name recognition and money.
“Google McNamara’s 100,000.”
Thanks for the reference. I read the article.
I was generally aware that standards had been lowered in some way during the war but did not know of the term, or how widespread it was.
This McNamara program does not fully explain why a retired Admiral would favor left-wing ideology.
Welcome aboard, Admiral, one more clown on the bus won't hurt, it can hold 48 passengers.
“Hes really running for VP slot on the Dem ticket.”
This.
Current or former military personnel who are democrats have a self hate complex.
We can thank veterans and active duty for their service, but...if they are Leftists, they aren’t worth a cup of warm spit.
I simply cannot understand that. The Left despises the military, and is interested in supporting them only as a necessary political tool when needed. I have never understood any military person subscribing to the views of the Left.
There is a fundamental disconnect that I cannot understand reconciling on the part of any consistent military person.
Oh great. Has a reputation as a “outsider” and a “maverick”. Where have we heard that before? America appreciates your service Admiral. Please just go home now and sit by the pool. You’ve earned it.
Fought against the Commies and now running as one. This is obviously a money scam.
Congressmen Curt Weldon was holding hearings on Able Danger and the 911 Cover-up Commission. Oct. 16 2006 the FBI raided the the home of Curt Weldon’s daughter about her dealings with Russia. Three weeks later Sestak beat him in the election. No charges were ever brought against his daughter and nothing else was ever said about the set-up because it had worked so well. The ORIGINAL RUSSIAN COLLUSION SCAM!
(As a friendly, helpful suggestion, I propose the best place to hold those dem debates would be the tropical paradise, the Dominican Republic.)
He will get absolutely no traction whatsoever.
