BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Beto O’Rourke took a path somewhat less traveled on Friday, meeting with a small group representing a community of slave descendants in South Carolina as he strives to make connections with the black voters who will play a dominant role in next year’s Southern presidential primaries.
In the community room of a Baptist church in Beaufort, a picturesque historic enclave on the state’s southern coast, the Democratic presidential candidate and former Texas congressman met with leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, a culture of coastal slave descendants.
Known as Gullah in the Carolinas and Geechee in Georgia and Florida, the culture is based on farming and fishing and has its own Creole language, history, cooking and crafts, with its communities nestled primarily among a 35-mile cascade of barrier islands. Scholars say separation from the mainland allowed the Gullah to retain much of their African heritage, including a unique dialect and skills such as cast-net fishing and basket weaving.

Yeah, the full story of slavery includes the fact that many freed slaves-— owned slaves!
The full story includes the fact that slave owners frequently not only granted freedom to slaves—but set them up in business. So these 1st generation freedmen, many skilled fine artisans, were immediately given reparations & affirmative action.
The full story includes the fact that a lot of “white people” were actually “passe blanc”— light-skinned blacks who were passing for white, and who looked down on, and were often abusive, to their darker brethren.
This skin-tone caste system continues to this day, WITHIN the black community.
The full story includes rape of black women by white men, and conversely, rape of white women by black men.
BUT it also includes lynchings resulting from false rape claims
And even more were cases of consensual interracial sex even when “miscegenation” was ilegal.
Black women actively sought concubinage to white men (quadroon cotillions were held in dance halls in New Orkeans) in order to elevate their financial & social status, bear lighter-skinned children, and join the passe blanc.
The quadroon & octaroon children were often educated in Europe.
These black mistresses, free artisans of color, & their offspring were better educated & far more wealthy than most white people.

They didn't invade to free slaves. They invaded to reestablish Washington DC dominance over a section of the continent that did not want it.
That "Let's free the slaves" stuff didn't come until at least two years after the war had started. The original purpose of the war was to force the Southern states to keep paying 73% of the taxes for the nation as they had been doing for years before the war.

Regardless - they still died. It was the soldiers that were killed. As for invasion, the South twice attacked Ft. Sumter and Lee invaded into VA. There was no Civil War. It was a war of succession, the South wanted out of the Union not to take it over which is what a civil war is: the take over of the government. Lee wanted to win, go to the Capitol and announce they’re going their own way and thanks for fighting and have a nice day, b’bye.

Son of a judge got off scott free after a DWI. We don’t know the truth about slavery because it would embarrass progressives. The Morgenthau Plan and the Yalta Agreement both endorsed slavery. FDR was a big advocate for slavery.
And black Americans don't know the full story of the mass starvation of the first settlers, the backbreaking hardships of the pioneers, explorers, hunters, trappers and the westward wagon trains, and the strict discipline of the Protestant work ethic from the 1600s to the 1960s that made this country great.

How true, they don’t know that the first slave owner in America was a Black man, they don’t know that the biggest slavers in the world then and now are the Africans and muslims, and I have no reason to believe the truth will ever be reported by the educators, media or ignorant narcissistic asses like Beano Boy.
Some other slavery facts leftists won’t tell you. Slavery was widespread for thousands of years before the USA was founded. Slavery in the American colony was British policy. It was not started by the colonists. After the American revolution slavery in USA was abolished after only approx 75 years. The Democrat party opposed the abolition of slavery and fought the civil war to keep it.
And you Wag the Slave morons need to read about white indentured servants sometime. And maybe learn about how the word slave came about. The Romans called my ancient slavic half ancestors slavs when they captured them. The word is derived from a white slave race you idiot.
