Senator Ted Cruz: Why Democrats May Sweep the 2020 Elections
San Angelo Live ^ | Jun. 12, 2019 11:06 am | Joe Hyde

“I’m worried about 2020, I think it’s 50-50. I think it’s a coin flip,” said Ted Cruz, the Republican U.S. Senator from Texas. The 2020 presidential race happens when the country is “deeply divided.” “It is an incredibly polarized country,” he said. “I think it all comes down to turnout.”

“I think the Left is going to show up in massive numbers,” he continued. “And it all comes down to who shows up on the center-right.”

Ted Cruz was on the Ben Shapiro Show Sunday when, 45-minutes into the interview, Shapiro asked Cruz for his assessment of the 2020 election cycle. That is when Cruz warned that the Democrats could sweep both houses of congress and win the presidency. Then they will proceed to perform great harm to the country, he said. […]

“I think the Democrats will nominate someone from the far left,” Cruz predicted. He said one of four declared candidates, between Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke, or Elizabeth Warren, will win the Democrat Party nomination to run for president. He gave an outside chance that Pete Buttigieg could emerge in the final four. “He’s stolen some of Beto’s thunder,” he said. […]

“…Every Leftist is going to show up at the polls and they will crawl over broken glass to get there. They hate Donald Trump with a white-hot passion. You’re going to see Democrats in areas where you didn’t know there were any Democrats. They’re going to crawl out of the woodwork,” he said. …

Ship of Fools.

The reaction of conservatives on this thread to the data in this article is only to be expected from those who believe that this forum is not here for the exchange of views but for cheerleading.

Let's start from cause and proceed to effect:

That changed in 2018. Suburban women in particular moved from Republican candidates to Democrats, Cruz said. The rings around the urban centers are now purple.

If you want to know why we lost the house at 2018, ponder that observation by Ted Cruz.

If you want to be a cheerleader ignore this fundamental challenge to us in 2020.

If you want to be happy optimist before the election, continue cheerleading.

I prefer to be an unhappy pessimist before the election but a happy pessimist after the election.

The Effect:

This fundamental development in the 2018 election portends electoral college trouble in 2020 and, as Cruz further points out, it makes it possible that Democrats could sweep Senate as well as the presidency.

Possessed of the three branches of government, Democrats will rampage across the Constitution ending the United States of America as we know it.

This is a reality that we cannot change by wishful thinking. Nor can we change it by attacking the motives of the messenger.

He’s right about the other side’s hate.

What is tough to predict is if , our side responds to the attempts to frame, blame, defame, put on trial in the court of public opinion, and ultimately impeach PDJT.

Who knows what the turnout will be?

Ted took his voters for granted this last time (charged for campaign signs!), ran a low energy and stupid campaign, didn’t see why that was a problem, and almost got beat by Beto as a result. He apparently didn’t learn.

See my post above. It’s worth noting that his 2018 campaign alienated said women.

That ranked voting has screwed us too. That and ballot harvesting lost us quite a number of seats in 2018.

The best outcome was obama winning the second term with the republican senate blocking everything. A president Romney would have been terrible and resulted in no president trump. That election and 2016 guaranteed for me that God is in charge in this country.

Cruz is absolutely correct.

Trump won in 2016 because Democrat polling and turn out in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania was very poor.

How many Freepers know that Mitt Romney got more votes in Wisconsin than Trump got, and Romney lost the state by 7%!

Bottom Line - there are more Democrats than Republicans. If they turn out at the same rate that we turn out - we lose!

Cruz cannot be faulted for the bolt of the white, educated, suburban women to the Democrat camp in 2018, it was not limited to the suburbs in Texas but was ubiquitous.

According to the article, Beto Rourke massively outspent Cruz and had a gale force wind at his back provided free of charge by the media.

Against that, he did get the help he needed from Trump. But Trump cannot be everywhere in 2020, he can't campaign in every suburb in every battleground state.

The problem is national, not limited to Texas, and not the fault of Ted Cruz.

“The Democrats increased their turnout in Texas by more than 100 percent,” Cruz stressed. In previous elections this decade, 1.8 million Texas Democrats voted. In 2018, that number swelled to 4 million Democrats. Cruz eked out 4.2 million Republican votes and the margin of victory was only 200,000 votes, Cruz said.

If Cruz keeps what up? Stating the facts? Would you rather him tell us not to worry, don’t work hard, we’re going to win?

Cruz swallows.

He's an arrogant open-borders prick (and non-natural-born-citizen) who is still inwardly seething that PDJT defeated his dirty tricks with delegates to win the Presidency.

Remember, he chose Carly "No American has a right to a job" Fiorina as his running mate in a lame, futile bid to revive his sinking campaign.

Republicans controlled both houses of congress and the White House, “They were like Thurston Howell,” Cruz said, referencing the stoic millionaire stranded on Gilligan’s Island. “Goodness, we wouldn’t want to do anything like that,” Cruz said in a voice mimicking the character on the popular 1960s TV show.

Cruz said Republicans missed the opportunity to implement game-changing legislation in 2017 and 2018. Among them:

The Trump tax cuts aren’t permanent and will sunset in the future
The border wall isn’t funded
Cruz said Obamacare is wreaking havoc on health insurance premiums for middle class Americans and congress could have passed reforms to attract more competition. Instead, congress reached for complete repeal where, if not for the nay vote from former U.S. Senator from Arizona John McCain, would have passed. Then the Republicans just dropped any movement on fixing Obamacare, even if incrementally.
Cruz said he advocated for these measures that he called transformative in the waning days of the Republican majorities in 2018 to no avail. Leadership didn’t want to upset the applecart.

“We need to have the same zealotry for freedom that the Left has for government,” Cruz argued.

The very unlikable Ted Cruz beat the fired up rats in Texas. Trump will carry Texas.

It is always about turn out. Trump base will turn out.

Cruz is an ass, and his analysis of 2020 is not worth squat.

Yes the far left will be fired up, but until we know who the rat candidate is we will not know how things will play out.

And then there is Spygate, no one knows how big that is going to be.

Agree with both of you. I think that is what Cruz was saying and I think he has a great point. I’m not a huge fan, but what he said was dead-on accurate. They’re going to stop at nothing to get rid of the President. Anyone and everyone that cares needs to show up and vote.

The President is going to be up against a complete moron, whoever gets the nod. I actually think its going to be her, for a 3rd time, but time will tell. Either way, I’m expecting violence in some form or fashion.

I know Ted's supporters here want to keep pretending that he is not a Bush type globalist.

Giving $400,000,000 to Venezuela and then bragging about it is something that only a globalist would do.

Yup, blame Paul (do nothing) Ryan for our defeat in 2018, he did everything he could to depress gop turn out. With a big assist by a bitter John (Obama Care) McCain.

They hated him in 2016.

They hated Hillary more. She's not on the ballot this time around.
