DENVER, May 3 (Reuters) - A Texas truck driver who police say caused a fiery multi-vehicle crash near Denver last week that killed four people and injured four was charged on Friday with 40 criminal counts including vehicular manslaughter, prosecutors said.
Police in Lakewood, Colorado said they arrested 23-year-old Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos after he lost control of his tractor-trailer truck during the evening rush hour on April 25 and caused a crash on Interstate 70 that involved at least 28 vehicles.

Just causing the crashes Americans refuse to cause.
He’ll be told his court date and be pinky sworn to promise he’ll be back.
Never be seen again.
Texas man, uh huh, this time we believe you........
My wife has been paying closer attention to this then I have. She says that the driver lost control of his rig because the breaks went out. He passed several run away truck ramps because he could not read English. And on the radio they were interviewing other truck drivers that said the driver was inexperienced and not well trained. Add to that, the company that owns the truck only has $750k insurance. That was gone in just the first few cars he hit.
He had a valid CDL so who knows?
Somebody else other than the driver will be going to jail.
According to court documents, Aguilera-Mederos, a Cuban by birth who’s been in the United States legally for several years, passed by a runaway truck ramp going about 85 miles per hour, and when he saw traffic stopped ahead, he tried to move his vehicle onto the interstate’s shoulder, only to realize that another semi was already there. Witnesses told investigators that the expression on his face around the time of impact was wide-eyed and terrified.
After the pile-up, which involved 28 vehicles, caused at least ten injuries in addition to the four fatalities and led to a closure of I-70 in both directions until the next day, Aguilera-Mederos insisted to authorities that his brakes had failed and Fox31 subsequently reported that the company for which he drove had a history of brake issues on its vehicles. Aliet Diaz, a friend who visited Aguilera-Mederos in jail, told the station that “he said, ‘I’m innocent. I will be here and I will be fighting through everything...because I know I’m innocent.”
Nafta permits Mexican truckers to drive in this country.
Before they had to leave their load at the boarder.
Theoretically American drivers can also drive in Mexico, except it is too dangerous
Well, we can hope...
Time to start pouncing on everyone involved that contributed to these sorts of things.
Someone gave him a driver’s license too. Name the state in a massive lawsuit. Win a few of those and maybe some legislatures will come to their senses.
Texas ? I didn’t know Chiapas was in Texas.
We can't deport these 3rd worlders or keep them out of the country, but when they commit crimes and we want to punish them, they are allowed to skedaddle. That's the leftist way.
Per Lakewood police, Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, the truck
driver arrested after Thursday’s deadly 28-vehicle crash on
Interstate 70, “is in the U.S. legally on a green card” and
is originally from Cuba
Is he an illegal?
Then: Never mind.
Wanna bet?
From the article:
The district attorney for Jefferson County, where the crash took place, charged Aguilera-Mederos with 40 counts on Friday, including four counts of vehicular homicide, six of first degree assault and 24 of attempted first degree assault.
Ive read that hes from Cuba and has a green card.
Oops, just read he’s legal.
How, I don’t know, since he cannot read English.
But, then again, neither can a good number of our publik skool ‘grads’.
What does Mexican truck drivers have to do with this. This guy
is from Cuba and in the country legally.
I wonder if his green card is REAL or a fake purchased from someone making forged documents!!!
This reminds me of the case of the truck driver that collided with the bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos in Saskatchewan, which killed 16. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humboldt_Broncos_bus_crash
He was a young immigrant man from India. Wouldn’t surprise me if he got his license from a license mill with inadequate training. He was employed by a company run by another of his countrymen, which had a record of safety violations. Totally missed seeing several stop signs, because he was distracted doing something.
And now he’s going to jail on an 8 year sentence, after which he may well be deported.
I wonder if his green card is REAL or a fake purchased from someone making forged documents!!!
Sadly, nothing would surprise me.
Im not an attorney so Im wondering about the ... and 24 (counts) of attempted first degree assault.
Can attempted first degree assault be accidental or does someone think he did this on purpose?
