My wife has been paying closer attention to this then I have. She says that the driver lost control of his rig because the breaks went out. He passed several run away truck ramps because he could not read English. And on the radio they were interviewing other truck drivers that said the driver was inexperienced and not well trained. Add to that, the company that owns the truck only has $750k insurance. That was gone in just the first few cars he hit.
Somebody else other than the driver will be going to jail.
I read the company he worked for had numerous safety violations Including brakes. Many times I’ve smelt brakes burning.
You would think the ability to read english would be a condition of the CDL.

Yes, I heard he had a license; came here from Cuba, had a green card.
It is very sad. Possibly the brakes did fail.
