Students at Hofstra University are demanding the school remove a Thomas Jefferson statue.
The group included other demands as well, including "mandated, comprehensive, cultural competency training.
Students at Hofstra University protested a statue of Thomas Jefferson on Friday at the second annual event, titled Jefferson Has Gotta Go!
The statue has been the center of controversy on the campus and has been defaced with DECOLONIZE and Black Lives Matter signs and stickers. According to a media advisory sent by the Jefferson Has Gotta Go (JGG) campaign, the protest was held at Hofstra Breslin Hall. Organizers included students of Hofstra University, staff from Planned Parenthood of Nassau County, and supporters of Hempstead community.
"it is about what the statue represents: a legacy of racism and bigotry on college campuses"
The group gathered on campus to expose the culture of bias and discrimination, as stated in the media advisory, and to demand the statue of Thomas Jefferson is removed.
Hofstra College Democrats want the statue to be removed and [we] stand with the Jefferson Has Gotta Go Campaign, the group's president, Brynne Levine, told Campus Reform
Former College Democrats executive board member Miranda Pino also professed her support.
"JGG isnt just about a statue," she told Campus Reform. "Yes, the removal of the statue is important, but it is about what the statue represents: a legacy of racism and bigotry on college campuses."
Further demands from JGG, stated in its media advisory, include an online, bias reporting system, an online complaint receipt program, and mandated, comprehensive, cultural competency training.
The Universitys Board of Trustees and Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz have yet to be persuaded to go along with the demands.
President Stuart Rabinowitz has refused to remove our campus sculpture of Thomas Jefferson at the will of the board of Trustees, JGG stated in its media advisory.
The university president responded in June 2018 after the first protest, announcing the statue would remain and that he would create a task force to consider further dialogue and education about our founding fathers, the Atlantic slave trade and Western expansion; to think about what freedom and equality mean at the University.
Hofstra University did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.
The protest came just hours after George Washington University students voted to ditch the school's mascot, "George the Colonial," named after another Founding Father, George Washington.
Boneheads. Snowflake boneheads.
Well that didnt take long.
See my tag line.

Meanwhile, Margaret Sanger is still in the Smithsonian....again selective rage.
Leave the statute, get different students... .
Martin Luther King was a plagiarist and a womanizer. This offends me. I want all the boulevards and schools to be renamed in honor of someone more deserving.
To be replaced by a Malcom X or Che statue.
I think that all of these social justice warrior types should have their goals met, for themselves only. They give up any and all rights that these Founding Fathers codified for us.
if you want to reject the Founding Fathers then you also reject everything they stand for.
Doing the work that ISIS cannot do here yet.
In some ways I really hope these folks one day get to live and experience every aspect and consequence of the utopia they demand.
Don’t these morons get that nobody is all the way they want them to be except maybe a mannequin?
When will the “adults” stop letting the kids run things?
Why in the hell these children weren’t immediately Expelled for being too immature for Higher Education is beyond me
Michael Savage was right (Liberalism is a mental disorder).
Here’s the solution to this statue business.
Leave the old statues standing and build new statues for the new heroes.
It amazes me that many college students are backing the forces working to rob them of their freedom and they are entirely clueless about it.
I knew they wouldn’t stop at Christopher Columbus. They hate this country and show it by hating its founders.
Liberals: "Yes, but she is in there for a noble reason - getting rid of the negroes. We cloak it in a mantra of "women's choice" but the end remains the same. Whatever works. And isn't that worthy of being in the Smithsonian?"
Who cares what offends you, cracka?
