CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. Next door to a plantation built by slaves, Gov. Brian Kemp defended Georgia's Confederate monuments as educational resources while he signed a bill to further protect them Friday.
"It is true that there are monuments in our history that do not reflect our values," he said, during a ceremony in front of Gordon Lee High School. "We cannot erase them from our history. We must learn from them. These monuments and markers remind us of how far we've come not only as a state but as a country."
Sponsored this year by state Sen. Jeff Mullis, the legislation allows local governments to sue vandals who deface monuments for up to three times the value of the damages. To the displeasure of some Democrats, the law also bans moving monuments from a prominent location to a museum.

And, 9th circuit injunction in............. We know it’s not in their jurisdiction but........#theydontcare.
Instead of reflecting on the negative of a monument or statue and how far we have come. Responsible adults view history as a reminder of the bad or good but these a##es are going to decide for all of us that it is not good and demand its removal. When you remove history you repeat it and its mostly the bad that is repeated. Im glad and I hope for these reasons the gov did this
These activists are just going too far, by demanding we tear down monuments and obliterating historic sites which don’t reflect a 21st century politically correct worldview. This sounds like good legislation.
I heard that Stone Mountain in Georgia with its bas relief of Confederate figures, was a target of the activists.
HOORAY Gov. Brian Kemp!
The Battle of Chickamauga was the Confederacy's biggest win in the Western Theater during the war, and thus the state really went all out with statues and battlefield preservation. It's a very nice place and it needs to be protected from the Left.
Thank God for Brian Kemp. Had Abrams been elected, one of her key platform issues was the removal of the Confederate carvings on Stone Mountain. Think about that! With all that is wrong in government today, that was the one issue she felt needed to be addressed above all others.
The Battle of Chickamauga was the Confederacy’s biggest win in the Western Theater during the war, .......... ??? Pappy Thomas? (Buried in Troy NY?) The original “The Rock”.
Yes that carpet bagger abrams said she would have the stone mountain carving blasted off the mountain.Bitch needs to go back to wisconsin but they dont want her gapped tooth behind up there either.
That is some in-your-face news reporting.
GOOD.
Yours, TMN78247
And Stacy Abrams was probably all for it.
So help me God, these leftist maggots better stay the Hell away from Stone Mountain.
Probably won’t restore the Flag.
I think the word “Confederate” may have clued people in that it was about the Civil War.
....... only for those with an education.
Kemp is a much better Governor than Nathan “let’s make a liberal” Deal. Deal was an absolute RINO POS.
I don't care either way, but I agree with his reasons for preserving them.
The period in American history known as reconstruction when blacks were given the vote (then restricted) gets the revisionist treatment or ignored because it doesnt fit into the socialists agenda which calls for division. The reason those monuments in question are placed, honoring men who fought for their cause when after defeat did not continue on. But rather chose to accept and support the result to unify the country
Those statues are also monuments to the great reconciliation between the North and South that allowed us once again to become one country, a country where the victors generously allowed the defeated to honor their own heroic dead, a stark contrast to the Soviet Union where no such thing was ever allowed by the Bolsheviks. Those who destroy them are actually attacking the United States itself.
