Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Browns Da Vinci Code thriller, caught fire in March.

Bingo!
CNN has stringers all over the world ready to report on any breaking news. I used to turn on CNN in such situations. Since they have become the enemy Fake News propaganda outlet, I wont even check them out for breaking news. In the beginning CNN was mostly terrific. Too bad they went astray.
And is that historian a leftist, as are most academics? They helped create this invasion of the West.
Macron said the cathedral will be rebuilt, as experts say it will take 10-20 years to complete. I predict the new structure will be a mosque.
If we put a man on the moon, they can figure this out.
If we can take a photograph, we can figure skate with grace.
Two different skill sets, and one requires patience and respect for one’s materials in a non-mathematical way that is not taught much any more.
You are right that probably no one will care for the same reason that Beethoven and Bach aren’t contending on the top 40.
Our loss.
It is hard to overestimate the loss to the West if one is an educated person. This loss is identical regardless of whether one is Catholic, Protestant, "into historical sites" or anything else. It's not "personal attachment" that makes it obvious that this is terrible loss, it's is historical literacy.
Sadly, those traits are less and less common in our society.
Yeah, security. The Vatican has a huge, high WALL. I’ve seen it and was astounded.
I am grateful once again for my Trump Train Family while we share our feelings on the sad loss of this beautiful cathedral.
No, but Murdoch has deep Saudi connections:
“I predict the new structure will be a mosque.”
Sadly, if the government is involved with rebuilding, it certainly will not be Christian.
To true Parisians...We cry with you.
If there are enough non-leftist, non-alien supporter French people left, the line will read "Soon to be an Islamic morgue." Patience doesn't last forever and turning the other cheek goes until one runs out of cheeks.
So far we don't know who set the fire or even if it wasn't set.
Ones in California 2 years ago were "illogical to have started so quickly and in various places under conditions different than usual for wildfires in California" according to longtime Californian Michael Savage at that time. Muslim guys had made boasts earlier but Muslim guys boast all the time.
As usual. He and Frankie both have this problem...
I was thinking of hot-work too. I worked at a site and had to sit in on the safety meeting - even though I wasn’t involved in their actual construction work. If a person was welding or cutting, it was mandatory that they have a helper whose ONLY job was to watch the sparks for fires. (No - they couldn’t help hold the material or anything, just WATCH.) I thought it was some stupid union rule, but the safety guy talking wasn’t union.
The safety guy told of stories where a spark would get under insulation, and start burning 5 hours later. Come back to the project site the following morning with the entire building burned to the ground.
That was interesting to learn about.
Even if the walls remain standing, the amount of heat from how ever many tons of burning timber and other material trapped inside of the stone wall, which is now acting as a furnace, will cause significant damage to the structural integrity. I have a feeling it will be unlikely for it to ever be used to build a new cathedral.
Actually, no workers need to be present for a fire to start. I don't know what type of renovation was being done, but a rag with linseed oil can start a fire by itself. Give it a few hours.... then POUF!
Has the Pope even commented on this?
