I have no strong feelings about the Vax/Anti-Vax argument. In fact, the vaccination stuff is only tangential to this story. The story is that a mother, happy with the progress of an illness in her 2 year old, was raided with a No-Knock home invasion because she did not receive the blessing of The State.

See, this is the problem. Our Law Enforcement has been so militarized that they are at war with the citizenry. Flash-bangs, automatic weapons, tactical vests, armored personnel carriers... all this stuff lends to the concept of fighting our own citizens.

It's got to change. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

raided with a No-Knock home invasion

Somehow this doesn't sound exactly like a no-knock raid:

When officials showed up to do a welfare check hours later, the child’s father refused to let them in

Long thread on this last night:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3738512/posts

Lots of high emotion.

Conservatives seem to fall into two camps:

1) Parents should be free to make their own health choices for their families
2) Government should mandate vaccines for all, and if it takes police raids to enforce that, then so be it. The health of my family may depend on you losing the freedom to raise your family as you see fit, and that’s just too bad for you.

I agree with you, 100%.

BUT, the real question for you is, "Would you hit it"?

In my view, if the doctors thought it was a life threatning situation, she should have put aside her fears and bring him in.

Still, the fact that someone from the medical community can call the police and next thing you know you and your family are treated like El Chappo, is a mighty disturbing thing.

As an aside, this is the type of thing that the so-called ‘Red Flag’ laws will result in.

Beck called the clinic again and said that she had bought a thermometer on the way home, and that it was showing that her son’s temperature had dropped, according to the police report. She later told KPHO that her son had been “acting normal” and “dancing with his sisters in his car seat” after they left the clinic, and that his temperature had fallen to 102. When they got home, it dropped even more, Beck said.

If this is true then this was uncalled for.

Why would the first doctor actually call the emergency room to see if the baby showed up? Because his take on the mother and how sick the baby was is that the baby was not in good hands and was in Danger. Let’s give the first doctor some credit for making a read that the mother was more concerned with not paying for the emergency room visit and that’s why she didn’t take the baby there and then she was capable of lying about how the baby was actually doing later on. I hate the thought of the government getting involved in people’s lives but I’m guessing this doctor felt that baby’s life was actually in danger and in that case it is okay for them to get involved If the parents are not equipped to care for the kids.

Vaccinations contribute to “the immunity of the herd”, the herd being us and our children. Anti-vaxxer’s make a lot of fallacious arguments over why vaccines cause more harm than good. I grew up during the polio epidemics in the 1950’s and thought that anything that would keep me out of an iron lung was a good thing.

All that being said, there is no situation that can’t be made worse or more dangerous than by getting today’s overbearing SWATcops involved. I place a lot of the blame the stupid naturopath that the stupid mother took her kid to in the first place.

I can see the need for this in some cases - Typhoid Mary and other situations where a person killed others by spreading disease. If the state thought this case was important than I agree with their actions.

We got so many foreignors in and about many of our cities these days spreading all kinds of stuff. At this point the cities and states need to be overly cautious (because our govts are not stopping the invasion) and protect citizens so to limit outbreaks and spread of disease.

I don’t care if she thinks her kid is getting better she should yeild to a step or two further to make sure.

Yes her child is her child but she’s choosing to live in a city, in a state, in community with others and THEIR wellbeing counts too.

Townsend said...”The situation might have ended differently if the parents had opened their door and talked to police, she acknowledged.”

Nope. The police were there to take the child, period.

Well...you might’ve saved the door.

You defy the infinite power of your gov? They will not allow it. They have no limit to their power. They escalate.

So when they illegally break in and mom is holding a shiny object the robocops kill her. This is the unavoidable result of government action to put down anyone who won’t vaccinate.

Coming to a neighborhood near you.

What if she were trying a late term abortion. That’s her right, according to the left.

The Officer was very professional. He contacted the family
3 times ,knocking on the door and 3 times by phone.

When DCS is involved and it becomes a case of checking on the childs welfare the Officer can’t just drive away.

When the father stated that the childs fever had “broke” it would have been a simple matter of letting DCS do a welfare check. All that happened afterwards could have been avoided.

Children will run high fevers, but unless accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain or stiff neck or the child not getting enough fluids or not up to date on vaccines the fever should not be viewed with too much alarm. Indeed it is a sign that the body’s immune system is working.

This was an overreaction not just by LE but by the doctor as well. And both should face hard questions and be called to account.

This was an unfortunate and unnecessary situation but let’s face it. People doing dumb things often generate dumb consequences. Nowhere is there any sensible explanation for this couple not just doing the right thing for their kid in the first place..

I am a Mugwump on this.

I think there is no scientific foundation for being against the usual vaccines for typical childhood diseases that can be critical for some kids (not all, but some).

On the other hand, I don’t like the state treating anyone as if they are the state’s property that the state can do with as they wish, regardless of how they think their intentions are good.

On the other hand, people, especially kids, mixing with the public when they are at an infectious stage of any disease, as marked by certain symptoms, is a public health matter, not just a personal matter (yes, we always angrily told employees to go home when they came to work sick).

On the other hand, other than a fever the doctors did not know just what the child’s ailment was.

I think what the authorities should have done is not to have sent the police to the kid’s house, but to have sent a medical team of a doctor and a nurse, and to have politely ASKED if they could HELP, by just examining the child to see if there was anything else they could do. They could have added that they were not charging for that service. Medicine, even for adults, goes down better with a little “sugar” on it.

Elián González being returned to a life of communism and socialism.

I'm not sure that much has changed in the past two decades. A large element of government turns into thugs when they feel that their primacy has been challenged. That is one of the core reasons why I believe government must be kept small - too small to flex serious muscle over this sort of absurdity.
