A mom refused to take her ... toddler to the hospital ... Armed police officers tore down the door.

The scene looks like something from a middle-of-the-night drug raid. Guns drawn, police officers in tactical vests surround a beige ranch house in a subdivision. With a single decisive kick, one busts down the door. “Come out with your hands up!” an officer yells, as a flashlight’s blinding beams begin sweeping the room.

But police in Chandler, Ariz., weren’t seeking out a trove of illegal narcotics when they showed up at the modest home in the Phoenix suburbs on Feb. 25. Instead, they were searching for a 2-year-old who had come down with a dangerously high fever. The boy’s mother, Sarah Beck, had allegedly ignored doctors’ orders and refused to take him to the emergency room, fearing that she would get in trouble because he wasn’t vaccinated. When officials showed up to do a welfare check hours later, the child’s father refused to let them in, saying that everything was fine and the fever had passed. Eventually, police decided to take matters into their own hands.

What if she were trying a late term abortion. That’s her right, according to the left.

The Officer was very professional. He contacted the family
3 times ,knocking on the door and 3 times by phone.

When DCS is involved and it becomes a case of checking on the childs welfare the Officer can’t just drive away.

When the father stated that the childs fever had “broke” it would have been a simple matter of letting DCS do a welfare check. All that happened afterwards could have been avoided.

BUT, the real question for you is, "Would you hit it"?

No, the real question is: Are you still in the 8th grade?

Children will run high fevers, but unless accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain or stiff neck or the child not getting enough fluids or not up to date on vaccines the fever should not be viewed with too much alarm. Indeed it is a sign that the body’s immune system is working.

This was an overreaction not just by LE but by the doctor as well. And both should face hard questions and be called to account.

“Vaccinations contribute to “the immunity of the herd”, the herd being us and our children.”

Herd immunity is a belief, but I’ve yet to see conclusive studies that document this belief.

If vaccines are so wonderful, then vaccinated children have nothing to worry about.

Beyond that, life always has risks... and there is a greater chance of your kid getting injured in a car accident than getting killed by measles.

You did what you could, freely. Now let people examine the evidence and do what they believe is right for their family.

In my view, if the doctors thought it was a life threatning situation, she should have put aside her fears and bring him in. Still, the fact that someone from the medical community can call the police and next thing you know you and your family are treated like El Chappo, is a mighty disturbing thing. As an aside, this is the type of thing that the so-called ‘Red Flag’ laws will result in.

You have perfectly encapsulated my views.

In order to legally migrate to the U.S. you need a medical exam. We are allowing millions to enter without an exam. Liberals see no problem with this.
Vaccines have done a lot of good. There is also a push by the pharmaceutical industry to force vaccinations. This makes people rightfully suspicious.
Why not send an officer to the home to check on the child? If he meets armed resistance then send in the swat team. The woman is lucky she did not receive the Vicki Weaver treatment.

I read the child was not vaccinated. Even then unless there is an active outbreak of a communicable disease and a very good chance the child was exposed, what happened was not justified.

Vaccinations contribute to “the immunity of the herd”, the herd being us and our children.

Every time I had a flu vaccine in the military I inevitably ended up with a raging fever and at sick call with 3-4 days. Every time. So where was the benefit? Since then, no flu vaccines, and no problems.

The issue with the vacc vs. anti-vacc. argument, is the credibility of the studies and who to believe. On both sides.

But to use SWAT to kick in the doors in this instance without no direct evidence is ridiculous, and dangerous.

“in community with others and THEIR wellbeing counts too.”

That opens the door for any government agency to step in “for the sake of the community, the state, the country.”

With this argument, they tax, they restrict, they worse - all at the point of a sword - all because a purported expert doesn’t like your choices, your faith, your words.

And each time, freedom is also stripped away.

“Someday soon guns will become a health issue.. Are you up for that?”

Guns are already a health “issue”. Doctors grilling their patients: do you own guns and if so how many and “none of your business!” will be taken as a yes answer.

As noted, Red Flag home invasions will look like this one and yes, police are militarized and live in a separate society from the rest of us.

Sheriff’s deputies....that’s a different story.

And if the doctor had just believed the mother that the child was fine, and the child died or became disabled due to meningitis, there would be a malpractice suit to try to defend.

Of course, if the mother had answered her phone when the doc called, and the father or mother answered the door earlier when the police were there, none of this would have happened.

The professionals, both medical and law enforcement, acted responsibly. The parents did not.

“it would have been a simple matter of letting DCS do a welfare check”

But they also steal children and put them in foster care.

Her mistake was going home.

When you hear the words “public health,” be assured that what is being said is not for your benefit and may harm you, but that some faceless bureaucrat has determined that it is risk you will just have to bear.

Doctors make deadly mistakes every day. EVERY DAY. They are far from infallible. So unless he had actual proof such as lab results or symptoms that pointed to something like meningitis or appendicitis or flu the parent’s rights do not come secondary.

While the family reacted poorly, I still do not see the need for a SWAT-style raid. This is just more of the military-mentality of the police.

And for that matter, if the child WAS in jeopardy, would it not have been simple enough to state, through the door, that because of the situation and the awareness of law enforcement, that if the child dies or is injured, that the parents WILL be prosecuted for Manslaughter or Child Abuse, respectively? Then just leave it be.

In fact, you could simply state that failure to allow the child to be looked at could violate Child Endangerment laws, also resulting in a warrant and prosecution.

Anyone reasonable would give in under that legal threat, and anyone unreasonable needs to be charged anyways.

The SWAT-raid is unreasonable on society’s part, and thus, my issue.

Hammers/Nails.
